Awakening is a late-game system that permanently strengthens a Pal. Pocketpair added it in version 1.0, and the required materials come from the World Tree. You will not use this system during the early story.

Radiant Gems are not used directly on a Pal. You combine them with World Tree Holy Water to craft an elemental Awakening Crystal. The crystal must be compatible with the Pal you want to improve.

What You Need for Awakening

  • World Tree access: complete the Sunreach and Panthalus route so you can enter the area where the materials appear.
  • Player level 67: the current Technology tree unlock level for the Ancient Workbench.
  • Ancient Workbench: the Pal-operated crafting station used to make Awakening Crystals.
  • 50 Radiant Gems: all must be the elemental type needed by the crystal.
  • 10 World Tree Holy Water: a rare material collected inside the World Tree.

The Ancient Workbench currently costs five Technology Points to unlock. Current 1.0 databases list its building materials as 50 Soralite Ingots, five AI Cores, and 20 Bio Batteries. Check the Technology screen before planning the full cost, because balance patches can change recipes.

How Radiant Gems Work

Radiant Gems drop from Pals inside the World Tree. There are nine types: Neutral, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Ground, Dark, and Dragon. One Awakening Crystal needs 50 gems of a single type.

Choose the Pal first, then collect the gem type needed for its crystal. Do not assume that every wild Pal drops a gem matching the element shown beside its name. Current players have reported some drop tables that are not obvious. Check the item preview or a current database and return to enemies that give the gem you need.

Catching and defeating World Tree Pals can both help during the search. Carry good spheres so the same trip can fill missing Paldeck entries instead of turning every encounter into a material fight.

Where to Get World Tree Holy Water

World Tree Holy Water cannot be bought from a merchant or crafted at your base. The Palworld Wiki lists Teafant Springs inside the World Tree as a direct source. Look for them near the first small camp, the cage-like structure holding an Alpha Dualith, and the center of the Gilded City Ruins.

Keep at least ten bottles reserved for each planned Awakening Crystal. Holy Water is also used in other World Tree recipes, including Paloxite Ingots, so placing it in normal crafting storage can use the amount you saved.

How to Awaken a Pal

  1. Build the Ancient Workbench: assign a Pal with good Handiwork because the player cannot operate the station by hand.
  2. Choose the correct crystal: match its elemental type to a compatible Pal before crafting.
  3. Add the materials: use 50 matching Radiant Gems and 10 World Tree Holy Water.
  4. Finish the crystal: wait for the assigned base Pal to complete the work.
  5. Use the crystal: select it from your inventory and choose the Pal you intend to strengthen.

Pocketpair describes Awakening as a way to strengthen a Pal beyond its normal growth. The studio has not published a clear percentage for every stat change. Treat it as a permanent endgame upgrade, not a replacement for leveling, passive skills, talents, souls, or condensation.

Which Pal Should You Awaken First?

Use rare Awakening materials on a Pal that already has the species, passive skills, and role you plan to keep.

Start with one Pal that you use in difficult combat. A regular party member for tower hard modes, raids, or the World Tree gives you more value than a Pal that spends most of its time in storage.

Finish the Pal's basic build first. Confirm the species, passive skills, talents, active skills, and condensation level before using the crystal. Breeding a better replacement after Awakening means the rare materials stayed on the older Pal.

A full party of six costs 300 Radiant Gems plus 60 World Tree Holy Water. Improve one Pal, use it in the content you are trying to clear, and decide whether the result is worth repeating before farming the next set.

Common Awakening Mistakes

  • Farming before choosing a Pal: you may collect the wrong elemental gem and still be unable to make the crystal you need.
  • Using every bottle of Holy Water: other World Tree recipes also need it, so keep a separate amount for Awakening.
  • Upgrading a temporary Pal: rare materials are better used after breeding and normal improvements are complete.
  • Expecting Awakening to fix a weak build: a poor passive set or badly matched active skills will still limit the Pal.

Awakening is easiest to manage as one final improvement. Build the Pal you already enjoy using, confirm the required element, save the exact materials, and craft only when the choice is settled.
