The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Nintendo confirmed the date during its Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct and showed a rebuilt version with new controls, full voices, symphonic music and optional guidance.

This is a standalone Switch 2 release, not an announced pack-in for the anniversary console. Nintendo has not published a U.S. price, digital file size or preorder start time in the current announcement.

When does Ocarina of Time release on Switch 2?

Nintendo’s official trailer says the game begins November 5. The date replaces the broad 2026 window carried by earlier product pages and ends the separate November 12 rumor that circulated before the anniversary presentation.

November 5 is the confirmed game date. The Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 hardware arrives one week earlier on October 29. Nintendo presented them as separate products and did not announce that the game is bundled with the system.

The current announcement does not list a regional unlock time. Digital buyers should wait for an eShop listing before assuming a midnight release in every territory, while physical availability can vary by retailer and delivery window.

What kind of version is this?

Nintendo describes a major overhaul for its Nintendo 64 classic rather than a simple emulated release. The footage shows rebuilt environments and character models, modern lighting and a presentation designed specifically for Switch 2. Loading is also faster, and the music has been newly arranged with a symphonic sound.

The story remains Link’s journey across Hyrule and through time as he tries to stop Ganondorf. Nintendo has not announced a different campaign, multiplayer mode or alternate ending. The changes shown so far focus on presentation, navigation and making the original adventure easier to read and control on modern hardware.

How do the new controls work?

Jump and run now have dedicated buttons, and the right stick controls the camera. Those additions reduce the need to rely on the original game’s contextual movement and fixed viewpoints. Nintendo’s gameplay demonstration also shows a cleaner interface built around the Switch 2 controller layout.

Players can hum ocarina songs through the Switch 2 microphone. This is an optional hardware interaction rather than the only way to play music; the standard controls remain available. Nintendo has not announced support for the feature on another platform because the game itself is exclusive to Switch 2.

Does Ocarina of Time have full voice acting?

Nintendo says the new version has full character voices and expanded dialogue. That is a substantial presentation change for a game whose original conversations were delivered through text. The reveal does not publish a complete cast list or confirm every supported spoken language.

Remodeled locations add more visual detail, and towns change between day and night. Those touches give the population of Hyrule more presence without changing the confirmed structure of Young Link and Adult Link moving between eras.

What is Threads of Time?

Threads of Time is an optional objective system represented by a woven tapestry. It gives players a clearer view of where the story is pointing, which should help anyone who wants direction without replacing the puzzle solving and exploration inside each area.

The game also connects with Zelda Notes. Nintendo lists a Today Record, Gossip Quest, Play Ocarina mode and a quiz with 2,000 questions. These are companion functions; Nintendo has not said that any of them are required to finish the main adventure.

Is there a physical edition?

Yes. A physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition is confirmed. Nintendo says the first printing uses a textured gold-foil treatment. The announcement does not give a U.S. list price, quantity, retailer-exclusive version or cutoff for the first-print packaging.

Nintendo also plans playable electronic ocarinas from HORI later in 2026, but those accessories are separate from the game. Young Link and Zelda amiibo are scheduled for 2027, so neither should be assumed to be included at launch.

What is still unconfirmed?

Nintendo has not announced the U.S. price, preorder date, download size, performance modes, resolution targets, complete voice cast, supported voice languages, accessibility menu or save-data transfer details. It also has not promised a game code with the anniversary console.

The confirmed facts are November 5, Switch 2 exclusivity and the features Nintendo demonstrated. The full Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct recap separates those game details from the October hardware launch and the wider 2027 anniversary program.

The Ocarina of Time game page keeps the date, official videos, platform and current media together as Nintendo adds store details.
