GTA Online can overwhelm a new player before the first useful purchase. Los Santos fills the map with icons, your phone keeps adding contacts, and the in-game stores advertise cars and properties that cost far more than an early character can earn. Spending on whatever looks exciting usually leaves you with no dependable way to replace the money.

Begin with a working vehicle, basic weapons, armor, and a short list of jobs that do not require an expensive property. The goal is to open one reliable business before buying luxury items. Players using PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC Enhanced may also start with Career Builder. PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC Legacy players follow the normal tutorial and build from a smaller balance.

This progression order is for GTA Online. Story Mode uses a separate economy and mission path covered in the GTA 5 Complete Guide.

Finish the Setup Before You Start Shopping

Complete the GTA Online tutorial instead of skipping straight into free roam. Rockstar's tutorial gives you a personal vehicle, introduces jobs, and starts your rank progression. Learn the Interaction Menu as soon as you can. It controls quick GPS, organizations, vehicles, inventory, and several settings you will use during almost every session.

Deposit carried cash through the Maze Bank website on your phone, keep snacks and armor ready, and use a free or inexpensive personal vehicle while your bank balance is low. An early supercar does not unlock work. A practical car that survives missions is enough until your income is stable.

Career Builder provides a GTA$4 million setup budget, but it is not GTA$4 million in free spending money. You must use most of it on one of four careers, a property, a vehicle, and weapons, and you can bring no more than GTA$1 million into the game. Choose a business location you will actually use, take a sensible vehicle, and avoid cosmetic property upgrades. Career Builder can only be used once.

Start in an invite-only session when you want to learn menus or complete setup work without other players attacking you. Move into public sessions when a job requires one or when you knowingly want the higher-risk public-session bonuses. Do not pay extra for that risk until you can finish the sale reliably.

Follow This Order to Reach Reliable Income

1. Run the Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid: Meet Vincent at the V marker near Vespucci Police Station. The raid has five setup missions followed by the finale, works solo from start to finish, and does not require you to buy a property. The standard leader payout is GTA$500,000. It is a strong early source of cash because the entry cost is time, weapons, and armor rather than a multi-million-dollar building.

2. Complete all six First Dose missions: Answer Ron's call and meet Dax's group in Sandy Shores. Finishing the First Dose chain gives you the Brickade 6x6 path. Steal the lab equipment, return to the Freakshop, and pay Mutt GTA$750,000 to install the Acid Lab. The missions and Cluckin' Bell payout can cover much of that cost without forcing you into older low-paying work for days.

3. Upgrade the Acid Lab: Call Dax and complete ten Fooligan Jobs as they become available. The equipment upgrade then costs GTA$250,000. Buy it before judging the business. Acid production continues while you run other work, and every sale uses one delivery bike, which keeps it manageable for solo players. Use Cluckin' Bell, contact jobs, or the current weekly bonus while waiting between Dax jobs and production.

4. Choose one major property: After the Acid Lab is upgraded, decide how you prefer to play. An Agency supports short solo jobs, Security Contracts, and the Dr. Dre VIP Contract. A Kosatka opens the Cayo Perico Heist for players who prefer one longer setup and finale. Do not buy both at the same time if doing so empties your account; keep enough cash for ammunition, armor, supplies, and mission fees.

Delay the Nightclub until you own businesses that can supply its warehouse. Delay most Motorcycle Club operations unless Career Builder already placed you in that path. Expensive aircraft, weaponized vehicles, yachts, large garages, full property renovations, and a collection of supercars can all wait. The Oppressor Mk II also needs additional equipment to reach its full use, so its listed price is not the complete cost.

The same rule applies to newer high-cost content. The Kortz Center Heist may be worth playing with another host before you buy the required property yourself. Finish the tutorial, use no-property jobs to build cash, upgrade the Acid Lab, and then choose one major purchase that matches how you play. That order gives every later purchase a clear source of replacement money.
