GTA 5 hides fixed scenes, unusual locations, and references across Story Mode. This list covers places a player can visit directly. It does not repeat Spaceship Parts, Letter Scraps, stunt jumps, peyote plants, or other collectible routes. Those belong in the GTA 5 Collectibles and Map Locations Guide.
Most locations below are part of the Story Mode world shown on Rockstar's official GTA V page. Some secrets also appear in GTA Online, but the conditions are not always the same. PC players should also confirm whether they installed Legacy or Enhanced; Rockstar's PC upgrade notice explains the current split.
Ghosts, Aliens, and Mount Chiliad
The Mount Gordo ghost appears on the eastern peak between 23:00 and midnight. Watch from a short distance or through a rifle scope. Moving too close makes her disappear, and the word JOCK appears in blood on the rock below. The location and time are cross-checked in the GamesRadar Easter egg guide. No collectible or mission is required.
The frozen alien is available during the Prologue. While driving toward the train crossing, leave the road down the right embankment and stop beneath the bridge on the frozen river. The alien is visible under the ice, but the mission fails if the crew waits too long. It can be seen again during Bury the Hatchet. The route is also documented in GameSpot's GTA V Easter egg gallery.
Inside the cable-car station at the top of Mount Chiliad, a mural shows the mountain, a UFO, an egg, and a human-shaped figure. In Story Mode, the UFO above Mount Chiliad requires 100 percent completion, appears around 03:00, and needs stormy weather. The broader GTA V secrets reference separates that flying UFO from the underwater wreck, which does not require 100 percent.
Two more flying UFOs become visible after 100 percent completion: one above Fort Zancudo and another above the Beam Me Up site in the Grand Senora Desert. They are easier to inspect with an aircraft, but the Fort Zancudo model can disable the player's vehicle. Save before approaching and do not confuse these Story Mode conditions with GTA Online's limited Halloween sightings.
Underwater Locations
A crashed UFO rests underwater near the northern edge of the map, off the coast by Procopio Beach. Use the Submersible or scuba gear and descend carefully. The wreck is covered with sea growth and remains in place, so it can be visited without waiting for a certain hour or completing the story.
The underwater hatch lies off the eastern coast near the San Chianski Mountain Range, southeast of Humane Labs. The dedicated hatch reference warns that it sits at crush depth. Do not move the Submersible directly against it. From a safe distance, the player can hear a tap-code message that refers to Roman Bellic's repeated bowling invitations in GTA IV.
The ocean also contains shipwrecks, aircraft, military debris, and whale skeletons. These are exploration locations, not a percentage checklist. Bring scuba gear for long searches and avoid guides that describe every underwater object as a collectible or a reward.
Crime Scenes and Rockstar References
The Infinite 8 mystery is spread across Blaine County. Merle Abrahams left numbered writing, a poem at Senora National Park, and clues connected to eight bodies in the water north of Paleto Bay. The Rockstar-universe Easter egg overview also connects GTA V's UFOs, ghost, and Bigfoot references with similar ideas in other Rockstar games.
A random scene in the Mount Chiliad State Wilderness copies the failed desert exchange from No Country for Old Men. Look northeast of the highway bridge for damaged vehicles, bodies, and a wounded survivor. A briefcase containing GTA$25,000 is farther down the slope, but armed pursuers attack after the player takes it.
Franklin's Vinewood Hills house contains a book titled Red Dead by J. Marston. Vinewood Boulevard has performers dressed in green armor that resembles Halo's Master Chief. Electrical boxes carry a 1.21 GW label from Back to the Future, and the JB 700 is GTA 5's direct version of a classic James Bond car.
