Strangers and Freaks are GTA 5 Story Mode side missions marked by question marks on the map. Michael, Franklin, and Trevor each meet different people, and several contacts return for a chain of follow-up jobs. These missions are separate from the main story, although Pulling Favors for Tonya is required before Franklin's story can continue.

The maintained GTA Base list contains 66 Strangers and Freaks missions. A normal 100 percent run does not require all of them. It requires 24 Franklin missions across eight character chains, while the in-game completion checklist records 20 Strangers and Freaks entries. Gold medals are optional for the percentage.

Finish the yellow-map objectives in the GTA 5 Story Missions Guide when a side contact will not appear. The Story Mode Beginner Guide also covers character switching, saving, and early map access.

Which Strangers and Freaks Missions Count

Barry: Complete Franklin's four Grass Roots missions. Michael and Trevor can also meet Barry, but their encounters are optional for 100 percent. Franklin's chain includes the two vehicle collection jobs before the closing mission becomes available.

Beverly: Complete all six Paparazzo missions as Franklin. Some follow-ups arrive by phone or text rather than appearing immediately. Keep Franklin active for a while after each job and check the map again after time passes.

Dom and Hao: Dom has four extreme-sports missions, ending with Uncalculated after the parachuting activity is open. Hao contributes one required street-race introduction. The later races belong to hobbies and pastimes, so track them separately from the Strangers and Freaks total.

Mary-Ann and Omega: Franklin needs one Exercising Demons encounter with Mary-Ann. Omega has two missions: Far Out starts the search, and The Final Frontier opens after all 50 Spaceship Parts are collected. The collectible work therefore overlaps directly with this side-mission checklist.

Peter Dreyfuss and Tonya: A Starlet in Vinewood appears after Franklin finds all 50 Letter Scraps. Tonya has five towing missions beginning with Pulling Favors. Later Tonya jobs can require Franklin to call her, so do not wait only for a new question mark.

Michael's longer optional strands include Abigail's submarine-piece search and the Epsilon Program. Trevor's optional work includes Cletus, Josh, Maude, the Civil Border Patrol, Mrs. Philips, Nigel and Mrs. Thornhill, Rampages, and his own Barry encounter. Play these for their stories, rewards, or medals, but do not add them to Franklin's required list.

How to Find and Finish Every Chain

Question marks are character-specific. If a marker disappears after switching protagonists, return as the person who first received that contact. Some missions also require a certain time of day, a phone message, progress in the main story, or completion of an earlier job in the same chain. Sleeping to advance time and then switching back is usually enough to refresh the map.

The two collectible gates take the most time. Omega's finale needs every Spaceship Part, and Dreyfuss needs every Letter Scrap. Collecting a few does not advance either mission. Use one saved checklist and finish each set region by region; the map guide prevents a late search for one missing rooftop or desert item.

Use the GTA 5 Collectibles and Map Locations Guide for those two sets. The GTA V 100% Completion Checklist keeps Strangers and Freaks separate from random events, hobbies, and miscellaneous tasks.

If no mission appears, first check all three characters, read unread texts, answer pending calls, and spend a little in-game time away from the expected location. Rockstar Support also recommends trying another character for a while and loading an earlier save if progression appears stuck. A manual save before long collectible runs or late story choices gives you a clean recovery point.

The final story choice affects access to Michael or Trevor. Choosing Ending C keeps all three protagonists available and is the simplest option for finishing their optional side content. Franklin's required chains remain the focus for 100 percent, but make a separate save before the ending if you intend to see every character-specific mission.

Gold medals are not needed for the completion percentage. The separate Solid Gold, Baby! trophy or achievement asks for 70 gold medals across missions and Strangers and Freaks, so replay only the objectives that suit that goal. Reaching 100 percent later unlocks The Last One for Franklin; it is a post-completion mission, not one of the tasks needed to reach 100 percent.

For the full order of Story Mode help, return to the GTA 5 Complete Guide. Keep one list for Franklin's eight required chains and another for optional character stories. That split prevents optional markers from hiding the work that actually moves the completion counter.
