Christopher Judge has heard the debate over a God of War game led by Faye instead of Kratos. He is not worried.

At FAN EXPO Canada, the Kratos actor called God of War: Laufey “a banger” and said players are going to be “blown away.” He also praised Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Faye, for what she brings to the role.

What did Christopher Judge say?

Judge kept his verdict short: “It’s a banger. People are going to be blown away.” He went on to single out Woll’s performance and said she delivers as the new lead.

Judge is part of the game’s cast, so this is an enthusiastic endorsement from inside the production, not an independent review. He also knows how protective God of War fans can be about Kratos. Hearing him back Faye so directly will carry more weight than a standard marketing line.

Why are some God of War fans unsure about Laufey?

God of War: Laufey puts Faye in the playable role after two modern games centered on Kratos and Atreus. Kratos is still in the cast, but this is Faye’s story and her chance to carry a full game.

Some fans were ready for that switch as soon as the reveal showed her speed and magic. Others do not want Kratos moved away from the center of a series built around him. Judge’s comments do not end that argument, but they show that the actor behind Kratos believes the change works.

What is God of War: Laufey about?

Faye wakes in the Everywhen, an afterlife where gods from different mythologies fight for power. The plans she left behind to protect Kratos and Atreus are in danger, so she has to find a way through the realm and back to her family.

The game is a standalone chapter, although the story follows events and relationships established in the Norse saga. Our God of War: Laufey guide has the full breakdown of the story, cast, release date, and announced gameplay systems.

How does Faye play?

Faye is faster and more acrobatic than Kratos. The gameplay reveal shows her using a sword, magical attacks, quick movement, and close-range combinations rather than copying the heavy rhythm of the Leviathan Axe.

The change is easy to see even without a controller in hand. Faye closes distance quickly, moves around larger enemies, and uses her abilities to control space. Santa Monica Studio is building a different combat style instead of putting a new character into Kratos’s old animations.

When does God of War: Laufey come out?

God of War: Laufey launches for PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. Sony has not announced a PS4 or PC version. Preorders will open closer to release.

Judge’s comments will not win over every fan who wants Kratos back in front. They do show how confident the returning Kratos actor is in Woll and the new direction. After watching Faye’s gameplay, are you ready to let her lead the next God of War?
