Muramasa: Revenant Blades will launch on February 4, 2027. Marvelous announced the exact date alongside a new gameplay showcase for Vanillaware’s renewed 2D action RPG.

How do the six stories work?
The game is set in Japan during the Genroku era, with cursed Demon Blades drawing people, spirits and rival factions into conflict. Each protagonist has a separate goal, including possession, revenge and a determined pursuit of love, and each route stands as its own tale.
The six-story structure also changes how progression is handled. Kisuke and Momohime forge swords, while Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru and Rajaki train to learn skills and create charms for their different forms or weapons.
Marvelous has not published a total campaign length or explained whether story scenes have been added. The official material confirms the complete set of playable routes, but it does not promise new endings or a continuation beyond Genroku Legends.
What changed in the sword combat?
Normal attacks can be chained into combos, then extended with dashes and jumps on the ground or in the air. Players can also parry close attacks and deflect ranged attacks with the correct timing.
Skills cover single-target strikes, area attacks and ranged options. Once Kisuke or Momohime masters a technique attached to a sword, up to three skills can be assigned for ground combat and three for aerial combat, then switched with the directional pad.
Marvelous describes the controls as easier to learn while retaining room for advanced combinations. The current showcase demonstrates the updated flow, but no platform-specific control map or performance comparison has been published.
How do swords, skills and character growth work?
The official product page promises more than 100 swords to forge and dozens of skills to develop. Souls collected from defeated enemies support both forging and training, depending on the protagonist.
