LEVEL5 has announced Professor Layton and the Curious Village Remake for a worldwide release in 2027. The new version of Layton and Luke’s first investigation is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam.

The remake rebuilds the characters in 3D and adds more immersive exploration, high-resolution visuals and widescreen animation. LEVEL5 has not announced an exact date, price, editions or whether the original puzzle set will change.

What is Professor Layton and the Curious Village Remake?

It is a new remake of the first Professor Layton game. LEVEL5 introduced it during the September 10 LEVEL5 VISION 2026 II Dream event and published a separate official product page and teaser.

Curious Village previously appeared on Nintendo DS and later received an HD mobile edition for iOS and Android. LEVEL5 presents the 2027 project under a new Remake title with console and PC versions, three-dimensional character models and a different exploration presentation.

LEVEL5 has not called this a remaster or a port of the mobile edition. It also has not announced save transfer, ownership discounts, physical editions or an upgrade path from any earlier release.

What is the Curious Village story?

Professor Hershel Layton and his apprentice, Luke, travel to the remote village of St. Mystere after receiving a request from the widow of a wealthy baron. The baron’s will says that the family treasure, known as the Golden Apple, is hidden somewhere in the village.

Whoever finds the Golden Apple will inherit the entire Reinhold Estate. Layton and Luke begin searching the town for clues, but the investigation quickly involves the residents and several connected mysteries.

The official remake page repeats that original setup without revealing the solution. The September teaser also avoids the central answer, using the tower, narrow streets, suspicious residents and late-night scenes to establish the setting without spoiling the investigation.

How are the graphics and exploration changing?

Layton, Luke and the village residents are being reimagined as 3D characters. The teaser shows them standing and talking inside dimensional versions of St. Mystere’s streets, hotel and manor rather than appearing only against flat scene backgrounds.

LEVEL5 describes the exploration as more immersive, with greater depth and richer detail. The footage shows the camera framing characters from several angles during conversations and investigation scenes, but the company has not published a complete explanation of movement, camera control or how every original location is being rebuilt.

The trailer footage is from a game still in development. LEVEL5 warns that the final version may differ, so interface placement and visual details shown in the teaser should not be treated as final specifications.

Will the remake change the puzzles?

LEVEL5 has not announced whether puzzles are being added, removed or rewritten. The official remake page credits puzzle supervision to Akira Tago, the author of the Atama no Taisou puzzle-book series, but it does not publish a puzzle count for the 2027 version.

The earlier HD mobile edition describes more than 100 brain teasers in the original game, including slide puzzles, matchstick problems and trick questions. That historical figure explains the scale of the first adventure, but it is not confirmation that the remake will ship with the identical set.

The new teaser briefly shows a widescreen puzzle screen with the prompt and illustration side by side. Memo, hint and answer controls are visible in the Japanese development build. LEVEL5 has not explained mouse support, touch input, controller shortcuts or any platform-specific puzzle controls.

What is changing in the animated scenes?

The remake will present its animated scenes in high resolution and widescreen. The official page describes the upgrade as a way to revisit memorable moments with more detail.

The teaser moves between new 3D exploration and full-screen story animation featuring Layton, Luke and several St. Mystere residents. It does not say whether every original cutscene has been redrawn, whether the remake includes new scenes or which languages will receive voice acting.

Which platforms and languages are confirmed?

The confirmed platforms are Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Steam. Xbox, PlayStation 4 and mobile versions have not been announced for this remake.

The official page lists English in US and UK variants, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Korean. That is a supported-language list for the game, not a guarantee that every language will include a separate voice track.

Is this the same game as New World of Steam?

No. Professor Layton and the Curious Village Remake and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam are separate games. LEVEL5’s event recap lists the remake as a new announcement and New World of Steam as a different title that received an update during the same presentation.

Curious Village returns to Layton and Luke’s first case in St. Mystere. The remake announcement does not replace, delay or combine with New World of Steam, and LEVEL5 has not announced a bundle containing both games.

What is still unconfirmed?

There is no exact 2027 release date, price, preorder date or edition list. LEVEL5 also has not confirmed a physical release, hardware-specific performance targets, PC requirements, save transfer or a demo.
