Xbox will publish PHYSINT, the action-espionage game in development at Kojima Productions. The September 9 announcement keeps the project alive under an expanded Xbox relationship after PlayStation Studios ended its PHYSINT collaboration.

The project is continuing, but its launch platforms are not confirmed. Xbox, Kojima Productions and Hideo Kojima did not announce a release date, price, gameplay footage or an exclusivity plan with the new publishing agreement.

What changed for PHYSINT on September 9?

The publisher relationship changed from PlayStation to Xbox. Xbox Wire says the company and Kojima Productions expanded their existing partnership beyond OD, with Xbox now publishing PHYSINT.

Kojima Productions separately said its journey with PHYSINT continues with Xbox and that the new agreement shares the studio’s creative vision. Both statements describe the game as active development, not a reboot, a new title or a replacement project.

No gameplay, release window or platform list accompanied the announcement. The news is a business and production update. The current Xbox graphic is title-and-partner art rather than a screenshot from the game.

What did PlayStation say about leaving PHYSINT?

PlayStation Studios said it made the decision after careful consideration and would step away from collaborating with Kojima Productions on PHYSINT. The statement did not give a budget, schedule, platform-strategy or creative reason for that choice.

PlayStation did not say it was ending every relationship with Hideo Kojima. Its statement expresses admiration for his vision and says it expects close collaboration with Kojima and his independent studio in the future.

Hideo Kojima used firmer production language in his own account. He said PlayStation Studios notified the team in mid-June that it would cancel the PHYSINT project. Presenting both statements with attribution preserves the difference between PlayStation’s public wording and Kojima’s description of what the studio was told.

How did Kojima Productions find a new partner?

Kojima says the studio spent three months looking for a new partner. That search followed the mid-June notice from PlayStation Studios. He says the team sought advice, held negotiations across several fields and chose Xbox because the companies share a vision for the future.

The statement does not identify the other parties contacted, disclose financial terms or explain the rights arrangement. It also does not establish when Xbox’s publishing work began or whether any parts of the project changed during the transition.

Development did not end with the former collaboration. Kojima explicitly reassured players that production is ongoing, while Xbox said it will share more as development progresses.

Is PHYSINT an Xbox exclusive now?

Xbox publishing does not by itself confirm an exclusive platform plan. None of the September 9 official statements lists Xbox hardware, Windows PC, cloud distribution, Game Pass or any other launch destination.

The game’s original PlayStation announcement is no longer a reliable guide to current platforms because PlayStation Studios has stepped away. At the same time, removing that former plan does not automatically prove where the game will or will not ship under Xbox.

Platform availability should remain “not announced” until Xbox or Kojima Productions names it. The same rule applies to Game Pass, physical editions, cross-platform support and release timing.

What kind of game is PHYSINT?

PHYSINT is a new action-espionage project from Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions. The PHYSINT game page collects the confirmed project status, art, cast and publishing details without assigning a speculative date or platform.

In the original January 2024 announcement, Kojima described an original interactive project built with cinematic presentation in mind. The brief video showed Kojima and then-PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst, production equipment and the Columbia Pictures lot; it did not show gameplay.

The September 2026 statements preserve the action-espionage identity. They do not describe combat, stealth systems, story, setting, characters, camera perspective or multiplayer features. PHYSINT should not be labeled a Metal Gear sequel or given a more specific gameplay category without new official evidence.

Who is in the PHYSINT cast?

Kojima Productions has publicly named Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-Seok and Minami Hamabe. The trio appeared in the studio’s September 2025 Beyond the Strand update alongside the first PHYSINT visual art.

That update did not identify character names, playable roles or a complete cast. The September 9 publisher announcements do not repeat the actors or announce replacements, so the accurate record is that these are the three previously revealed performers rather than a newly reconfirmed full roster.

The current deal also does not reveal voice languages, performance-capture details or character likenesses. Those credits should remain open until Kojima Productions provides a new cast or character update.

What does the Xbox film and TV partnership include?

Xbox and Kojima Productions say their relationship will also extend across film and television. That line appears after the announcement’s references to OD and PHYSINT, but it does not name a PHYSINT film, television series or adaptation.

The broader collaboration is separate from the confirmed fact that Xbox will publish the game. No distributor, studio, format, title, creative team or production schedule was provided for the film and television work.

The original PHYSINT pitch already emphasized a boundary between games and movies, but the new announcement should not be expanded into an adaptation claim. It only confirms that the companies plan to tell additional stories across those media.

What is still unknown about PHYSINT?

PHYSINT still has no confirmed release date or release window. The official material also leaves its platforms, price, editions, subscription availability and age rating unannounced.

There is no public gameplay demonstration or story trailer. The current Xbox announcement art is not footage, and the 2025 character visual does not identify a protagonist. Engine, technical targets, camera, mission structure, multiplayer support and development milestone are also unstated.

No reason has been given for PlayStation’s decision beyond its careful-consideration wording. Claims about budgets, physical media, PC strategy, creative disputes or internal performance are speculation. Follow the Pixel Twelve Games hub for future first-party updates.
