Dreamcatchers are easy to notice once Arthur is standing beside the right tree and almost invisible from the road. Twenty trees carry the hanging bundles, spread from the mountains west of Valentine to Roanoke Ridge and northern Lemoyne. There is no stranger waiting to hand over a map. The first one Arthur inspects quietly starts the collection.

All 20 are available from Chapter 2 and none are missable. The route below groups them into four rides so players can clear one part of the map at a time. The numbers belong to this route; the game only tracks the total.

How Dreamcatchers Work

Ride close to the marked tree and use Eagle Eye. The Dreamcatchers glow yellow among the branches, and an Inspect prompt appears when Arthur is in the correct position. Hold the prompt until the discovery registers. Looking at the tree without inspecting it will not add the location to the total.

  • Track the total: Open Progress, Total Completion, and Dreamcatchers to see how many locations have registered.
  • Use daylight: The hanging shapes are easier to separate from branches during the day, especially in Roanoke Ridge.
  • Dismount nearby: Several trees sit on slopes where the horse blocks the Inspect prompt or slides away from the exact position.
  • Save after each region: The map does not number the trees, so a regional save makes a missing location easier to narrow down later.

Route 1: Grizzlies West and Central Ambarino

  • 1. Cattail Pond ridge: Ride northeast of Cattail Pond and climb the wooded hill south of the S in Grizzlies West. Inspect the largest leafless tree in the clearing.
  • 2. Window Rock road: Follow the road between Cattail Pond and Window Rock. On the short north-to-south section, look just west of the road for a tree above the trail.
  • 3. Cotorra Springs: Ride east of Cotorra Springs and stay north of the railroad. The Dreamcatchers hang from a large brown tree surrounded by smaller pale trunks.

The first two trees are close enough to collect during one mountain ride from Valentine. Warm clothing helps, but neither location requires reaching the highest snow line. The Cotorra Springs tree is farther east and fits naturally with a trip toward Bacchus Station.

Route 2: Valentine, Caliban's Seat, and the Heartlands

  • 4. South of Valentine: Follow the dotted path directly south of the first E in Valentine. The Dreamcatchers hang from a dark, leafless tree just west of the path, behind a stump.
  • 5. Caliban's Seat: Go to the triangular road junction southwest of Caliban's Seat. Search the trees slightly west of the intersection and just north of the road.
  • 6. Flatneck Station ridge: Ride northeast from Flatneck Station toward the Dakota River. Climb the ridge east of the O in Dakota River; the tree is above the road rather than beside it.
  • 7. Citadel Rock railroad: Follow the railway east from Valentine. North of Citadel Rock, search between the tracks and the nearby road for the decorated tree.
  • 8. Western New Hanover tracks: Move south from the Citadel Rock location and look west of the first E in New Hanover, close to the railroad crossing. Use Eagle Eye among the cluster of trees.
  • 9. The Heartlands lone tree: Place a marker near the upper-right corner of the N in The Heartlands. The Dreamcatchers are on a bare tree standing by itself in the open.
  • 10. Heartland Overflow: Ride to the southern side of Heartland Overflow, between the A and N in New Hanover. Inspect the sparsely leafed tree north of the main trail.

This is the quickest part of the hunt because most trees sit near roads, railways, or open fields. Start south of Valentine, work down through Caliban's Seat and Flatneck Station, then follow the tracks east toward Citadel Rock and Emerald Ranch.

The Flatneck Station tree is the awkward one. The map marker appears close to the road, but Arthur needs to approach from higher ground. Ride around the ridge instead of forcing the horse up the steep face.

Route 3: Emerald Ranch and Northern Lemoyne

  • 11. Central New Hanover: Search inside the O in New Hanover on the map. The tree stands near the top of a wooded hill, so use Eagle Eye before riding past it.
  • 12. Aberdeen Pig Farm: Ride northwest of Aberdeen Pig Farm and west of the cursive farm label. The Dreamcatchers hang from a lone tree in an open field near the state border.
  • 13. Lonnie's Shack: Go northwest of Lonnie's Shack and Pleasance. Cross the track and search for a dead tree on the grassy rise.
  • 14. Bluewater Marsh border: Ride north of the B in Bluewater Marsh. Pass the river and lower road, then inspect the tree beside the southern edge of the upper road.

These four form a short loop around Emerald Ranch. The open fields near Aberdeen and Lonnie's Shack make those trees easy to spot, while the Bluewater Marsh location can disappear into the trees around the road fork. Use the state line and the large map lettering as landmarks.

Route 4: Elysian Pool, Annesburg, and Grizzlies East

  • 15. South of Elysian Pool: Climb the hill directly south of the pool and east of the second E in New Hanover. The tree stands beyond a large boulder.
  • 16. Roanoke Ridge road: Follow the north-to-south road below the S in Annesburg. Near a large rock, leave the road to the east and inspect the tree inside the forest.
  • 17. South of Annesburg: Ride south from the U in Annesburg, cross the road bend, and search the wooded hill for a dead tree.
  • 18. Beaver Hollow: Go east of Beaver Hollow, near the upper-right corner of the second N in Annesburg. The tree is just east of the road at the intersection.
  • 19. Northern Roanoke Ridge: Search west of the second O in Roanoke Ridge and north of the S in Annesburg. The tree stands near a triangular meeting of paths.
  • 20. The Loft: Ride west of The Loft in northeastern Ambarino, slightly north of the railroad. Search the trees on the slope before the land drops toward the tracks.

Roanoke Ridge has the most similar-looking trees in the guide. Stay on the marked road until reaching the nearest landmark, dismount, and sweep the area with Eagle Eye. Moving slowly is faster than circling the forest at full speed and repeatedly losing the same hill.

The Loft is the final stop in this route and the only long ride away from the eastern trees. It can also be collected earlier with the Cotorra Springs location. Either order works; the game does not care which tree becomes number 20.

Find the Ancient Arrowhead at Elysian Pool

After the twentieth inspection, Arthur adds a drawing to his journal. Lines connect the Dreamcatcher locations into the shape of a bison, and an extra mark sits where its eye would be. That mark points to Elysian Pool.

  • Enter behind the waterfall: Go to the northern side of Elysian Pool, walk through the falling water, and equip the lantern from the weapon wheel.
  • Follow the stream: Climb onto the rock inside the cave and follow the narrow water path until it opens into a large chamber.
  • Find the bison painting: Look to the right side of the chamber, climb toward the cave paintings, and inspect the large bison image.
  • Search the eye: Move close to the eye of the painted bison and take the Ancient Arrowhead from the small opening.

The Ancient Arrowhead makes stamina last twice as long while Arthur or John uses a bow. It is especially useful for hunting, stealth attacks, and challenges that involve repeated bow shots. The perk is permanent once the item has been collected.

What Counts Toward 100 Percent

The Total Completion menu requires all 20 Dreamcatchers, and the full set adds two percent to the overall total. There is no letter to mail and no stranger to revisit. Each tree must show the Inspect animation and register in the tracker.

The Ancient Arrowhead is the payoff for following the journal clue rather than another tree on the checklist. Even when the Dreamcatchers total has already registered, finish the cave visit. The bow perk is useful, and the bison drawing gives the collection an ending instead of leaving Arthur with twenty marks and no explanation.
