Red Dead Redemption 2 creates two different ideas of completion. The in-game Total Completion tracker is forgiving and can be finished after the story. It asks for selected animals, weapons, strangers, collectibles, and events rather than every possible discovery. The Best in the West trophy or achievement is not ruined because Arthur missed one camp conversation.
A save can still lose content permanently. Optional Honor missions affect Lending a Hand. Camp activities and item requests disappear as the gang moves. Several named weapons only exist on the ground for a few moments. Players chasing every trophy, Compendium entry, unique reward, or character scene need to plan more carefully than players chasing the official 100%.
Make One Manual Save Per Chapter
Keep a rotating save near the beginning of each chapter and another before its final group of yellow missions. RDR2 autosaves after choices, purchases, deaths, and travel, so one autosave is not enough protection. A chapter save turns a missed camp request into a short return instead of a new 50-hour playthrough.
Avoid saving over those checkpoints until the next chapter is fully underway. Mission replay is useful for medals, but replaying a time-sensitive mission later does not always add its reward or trophy progress to the main save.
100% Completion and Platinum Are Not the Same
The official 100% list can be cleaned up in the epilogue. Only part of the Compendium is required, only ten Stranger mission strands are needed, and the collectible categories remain available. All 90 challenges and all 13 Legendary Fish are long jobs, but they are not missable.
The trophy and achievement list reaches beyond that tracker. Lending a Hand asks for optional Honor missions in one playthrough. Friends With Benefits asks for a companion activity in the camps used during Chapters 2, 3, and 4. Give to the Poor depends on the gang's donation box, and Errand Boy depends on camp item requests. Breaking and Entering is also safer early because some homestead opportunities can close.
The Camp Trophies to Finish Before Chapter 5
Friends With Benefits
Complete at least one companion activity in each of the Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4 camps. These are the small white activities offered by gang members, including hunting, fishing, robberies, Five Finger Fillet, and other outings. Doing three activities in Chapter 2 does not cover the later camps; each camp needs its own credit.
Give to the Poor
Donate a total of $250 to the gang's tithing box before the box disappears after Chapter 4. Item donations contribute their cash value, but direct money makes the total easier to track. Do it early, then use the ledger normally.
Errand Boy
Complete five companion item requests. Requests are triggered through camp conversations and often depend on chapter, time of day, or another mission. Return to camp during daylight, talk to people instead of running directly to the bed, and deliver easy requests as soon as they appear.
Common early options include Jack's comic book, Javier's Oleander Sage, Mary-Beth's fountain pen, Tilly's necklace, Susan's oregano, and Bill's hair pomade. The request must be active before the item can be delivered. Some unique rewards, such as Jack's drawing or Dutch's spurs, are also tied to these short exchanges.

Lending a Hand and Optional Honor Missions
Lending a Hand is the story trophy most likely to force another playthrough. It requires a specific group of optional Honor missions completed in the live save. Replaying a missed mission from the Progress menu after the story is not the same as completing it when it appeared.
Read letters at Arthur's lodging, accept requests from camp, and complete optional yellow or white mission chains before pushing the chapter forward. The important lines include the debt missions, Mary's requests, Brother Dorkins and Sister Calderon's Saint Denis chain, and the late missions connected to Edith Downes and Rains Fall.
Do Not Seek Absolution in Chapter 6 requires Honor level 4. Keep Arthur's Honor on the positive side before the chapter reaches its final run of missions. Greeting people, releasing caught fish, completing bounties, and making honorable story choices can raise it without a late panic.
The Owl Feather Trinket Has One Clean Chance
Archeology for Beginners is an optional Chapter 6 mission with Rains Fall. Recover the sacred items without killing anyone and he gives Arthur the Owl Feather Trinket, which slows the drain of all three cores by 15%. Being detected does not require a gunfight; escape and try the approach again if necessary.
Make a manual save before starting. A later replay can register the mission or Compendium entry without placing the permanent perk into the active save. Players who want the Trinket should earn it during the original mission.
Unique Weapons to Pick Up Immediately
The Noblest of Men, and a Woman sends Arthur after famous gunslingers. Flaco's Revolver, Granger's Revolver, and Midnight's Pistol appear after their duels. Walk to the body, collect the named weapon, and wait for the Compendium confirmation before leaving. The final Calloway encounter also has a unique revolver; check that it has been added before the mission ends.
The Rare Rolling Block Rifle has a narrower window. During the Chapter 3 mission Magicians for Sport, one of the bounty hunters in the Braithwaite barn carries it. Loot the weapon during the mission. The ordinary Rolling Block Rifle does not replace the rare version in the Compendium.
Other special weapons are easy to overlook but are not tied to a chapter. The Rare Shotgun comes from the hostile hermit north of Annesburg, and the Ornate Dagger comes from the Saint Denis vampire encounter. Save before both meetings and pick up the item before leaving, even if the encounter itself can be attempted later.

Mission Rewards That Depend on One Action
The Lion's Paw is collected during the final part of He's British, of Course and is used to craft the Lion's Paw Trinket. Loot the paw before leaving. Geology for Beginners opens Francis Sinclair's cabin after all ten rock carvings are mailed; pick up the Old Brass Compass inside so the Raven Claw Talisman can be crafted.
Unique hats, letters, drawings, and personal objects can also disappear with a location or chapter. They are not needed for 100% or the platinum, but collectors should inspect mission areas, camp tables, and defeated named characters before moving on.
Guarma Matters Only for a Full Compendium
Chapter 5 visits an island that cannot be explored normally after the story returns to the main map. Its unique macaws, boas, and Red-footed Booby can be studied, killed, and collected there. Players building a literally complete Compendium should handle them before the chapter ends.
Those island-only animals are not required for the in-game 100%, Zoologist, or Skin Deep. Missing them does not block the platinum. This is one of the few places where skipping content can bother a collector without damaging any official completion goal.

What Can Safely Wait
Legendary Fish, challenges, dinosaur bones, rock carvings, most treasure hunts, most stranger strands, Trapper clothing, and the official 100% cleanup can continue after the story. You do not need to turn every chapter into a checklist.
Protect the parts tied to people and moments: camp activities, requests, Honor missions, mission-only weapons, and conditional rewards. Handle those before the gang moves, then let the broad world collectibles wait until the story no longer has somewhere urgent to be.
