Wishes are Genshin Impact's system for obtaining characters and weapons. Primogems can be exchanged for Intertwined Fates or Acquaint Fates, and those Fates are spent on banners. The important detail is that every banner type has its own rules. Pity on one type does not automatically apply to another.

Pity means the game guarantees an item of a certain rarity after enough Wishes without receiving one. A high-rarity result resets the relevant pity count. The exact rules are listed in the Details screen on each banner. Read that screen before spending because HoYoverse can add a new Wish type or adjust a system.

Character Event Wishes

Character Event Wishes use Intertwined Fates and feature one or more limited five-star characters. When more than one Character Event Wish runs at the same time, the official rules state that pity and guarantee status are shared between those character banners. Pulling on one therefore affects the other.

A five-star result is not always the featured character. If the result is a standard five-star instead, the next five-star on the relevant Character Event Wish is guaranteed to be a featured character under the current rules. Capturing Radiance adds another possible outcome within the featured-character system. Its official explanation should be checked with the current banner Details because community summaries often reduce it to an inaccurate single percentage.

Four-star items also have guarantees and featured rules. Do not spend only because one four-star character is shown on the banner. There is no direct choice between the featured four-stars, so obtaining a specific one can take more Wishes than expected.

Weapon, Chronicled, and Lightrace Wishes

Weapon Event Wishes use Intertwined Fates and feature limited five-star weapons. Epitomized Path lets a player choose a target weapon and earn Fate Points after receiving other qualifying five-star weapons. Fate Point requirements and carry-over behavior have changed in the past, so confirm the current count and reset rules before pulling.

Chronicled Wish can include a selected group of characters and weapons. Players choose a target from the available list, and the rules explain which possible five-star results can appear. Its pity and Fate Point behavior is separate from the normal Character and Weapon Event Wishes.

Lightrace Wish is another separate format added by HoYoverse. Do not assume that a guide written before its introduction covers its guarantees or carry-over rules. Open Details, confirm the selected target if the banner requires one, and note exactly what resets when the Wish period ends.

The Standard Wish uses Acquaint Fates and has its own pool of characters and weapons. Standard pity is separate from limited Character Event and Weapon Event Wishes. Beginners usually receive Acquaint Fates through normal progress, so Primogems can be kept for limited banners unless there is a deliberate reason to convert them.

What Carries Over

  • Character Event Wish pity and featured guarantee can carry between eligible Character Event banners under the shared rules.
  • Weapon Event Wish pity can carry to the next eligible Weapon Event Wish, but Epitomized Path and Fate Points may follow different reset rules.
  • Standard Wish pity remains on the Standard Wish and does not combine with limited banners.
  • Chronicled Wish and Lightrace Wish use their own published rules. Check each Details screen instead of applying Character Event assumptions.

You can estimate pity by checking Wish History, but recent Wishes may take time to appear. Keep a separate note if you are planning months ahead. Never rely on memory when real money or a large Primogem balance is involved.

Set a stopping point before opening the banner. Decide whether you want the featured character, a weapon, or only a few four-star results, then stop when that goal or budget is reached. A banner creates urgency through an end date, but characters and weapons can return later. Spending beyond a planned limit does not improve the next decision.
