Xal’atath will join Heroes of the Storm on September 28, 2026. Blizzard’s official reveal trailer introduces the World of Warcraft villain as a new Ranged Assassin who brings Void power into the Nexus.
Current reports place Xal’atath on the Public Test Realm on September 14. The reveal is the first new Hero announcement since Hogger arrived in December 2020, but Blizzard has not announced a full development relaunch or a new long-term roadmap.

When does Xal’atath release?
The official trailer sets Xal’atath’s live release for September 28. Blizzard has not published an exact hour, regional rollout schedule or maintenance window for the live update.
Current reporting places the PTR opening on September 14, giving PC players two weeks of public testing before the scheduled live date. Blizzard’s indexed Heroes news feed did not yet include a written Xal’atath patch article when checked, so the reports and official trailer are the current sources for the two dates.
No console version is involved. Heroes of the Storm remains a Battle.net game for Windows PC and Mac, and Blizzard has not announced a separate platform expansion with this update.

What kind of Hero is Xal’atath?
Blizzard identifies Xal’atath as a Ranged Assassin. The reveal shows her attacking from distance and spreading large purple Void effects across a battleground.
The 66-second video is a reveal, not a full ability overview. It does not name her trait, basic abilities, Heroic abilities or talents, and it provides no damage, range, cooldown or health values. Visual effects shown in the trailer should not be treated as final balance data.
A complete kit breakdown is still pending. PTR patch notes or an official Hero page should establish the final terminology and numbers once Blizzard publishes them.

Why the reveal matters after Hogger
Hogger was added on December 1, 2020. Blizzard’s live patch notes from that day call him the new Hero joining the Nexus, making Xal’atath the first newly announced addition in almost six years.
The gap matters because Blizzard changed expectations in July 2022. The company said seasonal rolls and Hero rotations would continue, but future patches would focus primarily on client sustainability and bug fixes, with no plans for new for-purchase content at that time.
Xal’atath is therefore a real change in the content record. It does not erase the 2022 statement or prove that regular Hero releases have resumed.
Is Heroes of the Storm fully back?
Blizzard has not announced a full revival, expansion or regular content cadence. The verified announcement covers Xal’atath, her September dates and a limited-time skin offer.
Kotaku reports that Blizzard hinted another Hero may be possible, while Windows Central reports that future updates depend on how this release is received. Those remarks point to an open door, not a committed roadmap. No second Hero, season schedule, esports program or development calendar has been named.
The safest reading is narrower: Heroes of the Storm is receiving its first new Hero since 2020. Anything beyond Xal’atath remains unconfirmed.

Heartseeker Xal’atath and pre-purchase details
The official video description advertises a limited-time Heartseeker Xal’atath skin with pre-purchase. It does not list a price, currency, bundle contents or the offer’s end time.
Blizzard has also not clarified whether Xal’atath can be unlocked through the game’s existing currencies on September 28, whether the skin will return later or whether PTR access requires owning the Hero. Players should wait for the in-client listing or official patch notes before assuming purchase terms.
The skin offer is optional promotional content, not the release date itself. The live date in the official reveal is September 28 regardless of the current lack of pricing details.
What to expect from the September 14 PTR
The PTR should be the first public place to test Xal’atath’s complete kit. It should also expose her talents, interface text and initial balance values before the live release.
Blizzard has not published a start hour, test duration, region list or final PTR instructions for this update. The reported September 14 opening is a calendar date, not a guarantee that the test client will update at midnight in every time zone.
PTR values can change before September 28. Players comparing builds should keep patch versions attached to any damage numbers or talent descriptions they share.

What is Heroes of the Storm?
Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s free-to-play team brawler, launched June 2, 2015. It brings characters from Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft and other Blizzard worlds into objective-driven battlegrounds.
Matches use different map objectives rather than one fixed battleground rule. Team coordination, Hero roles and shared pressure around objectives shape each match, while the crossover roster lets Blizzard characters fight together inside the Nexus.
Xal’atath extends the Warcraft side of that roster. The reveal does not announce a new battleground, mode or progression system alongside her.
What remains unconfirmed?
Blizzard has not published Xal’atath’s ability names, talent tree, balance numbers, unlock price or exact release hour. There is also no confirmed second Hero, new map, new mode, season plan or full live-service roadmap.
A written PTR patch article, in-client listing and official Hero page may answer those questions. Until then, screenshots and short combat shots establish the Void theme and Ranged Assassin role, not the final mechanics.
