Hearthstone is adding Monk as its 12th playable class in March 2027. Blizzard announced the class during BlizzCon with a cinematic trailer, but it has not shown any cards, a Hero Power, or Monk’s main mechanic yet.

The reveal ends a long wait for players who have wanted the World of Warcraft class in the card game. It also makes clear that Monk is a permanent class addition, not a temporary event character.

When does Monk come to Hearthstone?

Blizzard has set the class for March 2027. There is no exact day yet. The studio says it will reveal Monk’s unique mechanics closer to release.

Monk is not arriving with Reign of the Black Empire. That expansion launches October 20, 2026 and brings back C’Thun, N’Zoth, Y’Shaarj, and Yogg-Saron. Monk follows several months later as a separate update.

What does the Monk trailer show?

The cinematic follows a Pandaren fighter training in a moonlit courtyard. He trades blows with a wooden dummy, moves through a bamboo forest, and channels bright green energy between his hands.

It is a class introduction, not a gameplay demonstration. The green energy and martial-arts attacks fit the Monk fantasy from Warcraft, but the trailer does not confirm how any of it will work on cards.

Why have Hearthstone players waited so long?

Hearthstone launched in 2014 with nine classes. Demon Hunter became the first addition in 2020, followed by Death Knight in 2022. Monk will be the first new class in more than four years.

The announcement has already restarted an old argument in the community. Some players want a fresh deck-building identity. Others remember the balance problems that followed earlier class launches and want Blizzard to take its time.

What does Blizzard still need to reveal?

Players are still waiting for the Hero Power, class keyword, starting card set, deck style, release day, and details on how the class will be unlocked. Those answers will decide whether Monk changes the game or simply adds more cards to manage.

The class itself is official, and March 2027 is the release window. Everything about how it plays is still open. What should Monk’s Hero Power do?
