Genshin Impact is a free-to-play open-world action RPG from HoYoverse. You control a party of characters while exploring Teyvat, completing story quests, solving puzzles, fighting enemies, and collecting materials. Combat uses seven elements, and combining those elements creates reactions that can deal damage, control enemies, or support the team.
The game is available on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, and Android. Eligible Game Pass members can also use Xbox Cloud Gaming in supported regions. PlayStation 4 access ended in April 2026, and HoYoverse has not released a Nintendo Switch version.
What to Do First
Follow the main Archon Quests when they are available. They introduce regions, characters, and systems while opening more of the map. Explore nearby Statues of The Seven and Teleport Waypoints so travel becomes easier. Open chests and collect visible materials, but do not feel required to clear every icon before continuing the story.
Adventure Rank measures account progress. Quests, exploration, commissions, and other activities provide Adventure EXP. Higher ranks unlock more features and rewards. At certain points, an Adventure Rank Ascension quest must be completed before the account can continue into the next range.
Build one main team before trying to upgrade every character. A simple group needs a character who stays on the field to deal damage, teammates who can add damage or elements while off the field, and enough healing or shielding to stay alive. The exact roles can overlap.

Progression and Wishes
Characters grow through levels, Ascension, talents, weapons, and artifacts. Early players get the clearest improvement from leveling a small team and its weapons. Artifact farming becomes more efficient later, so do not spend hours chasing perfect pieces during the opening regions.
Original Resin is a limited resource used to collect rewards from activities such as Domains and many bosses. The current cap is 200. Spend it regularly on materials your main team needs, but save Fragile Resin until you understand which activities give the best return at higher progression levels.
Wishes are Genshin Impact's character and weapon draw system. Primogems can be converted into the Fates used for Wishes. Different banner types have different featured items, guarantees, and carry-over rules. Read the Details screen before spending, especially on Weapon, Chronicled, or Lightrace Wishes.
