Primogems are the main currency players save for Wishes in Genshin Impact. You can exchange 160 Primogems for one Fate, but the type matters. Intertwined Fates are used on limited Character and Weapon Wishes. Acquaint Fates are used on the permanent Standard Wish. Most players keep their Primogems untouched until they know which banner they plan to use.
Before spending a large balance, read our Genshin Impact Wishes and Pity guide. It explains which guarantees carry over and why the banner Details screen should be checked before every pull.
Start With the Repeatable Sources
Daily Commissions are the most dependable free source. Completing the four daily rewards and collecting the final reward gives a total of 60 Primogems. Encounter Points can replace individual commission tasks when the account has unlocked that system and meets the current requirements. Open the commission page before leaving the game and make sure all four rewards and the final reward were claimed.
Limited-time events should come next. They often divide rewards across story stages, mini-games, combat challenges, and an event shop. You usually do not need a perfect score to collect the main Primogem rewards, but you do need to finish before the event and claim period ends. Check the Events menu when a new version begins and note the earliest closing date.
Spiral Abyss, Imaginarium Theater, and other rotating combat modes can add more Primogems after your account is ready. Take the rewards you can earn without forcing a weak roster through the hardest stage. Building two reliable teams first is more useful than spending Primogems because a challenge is temporarily difficult.

Permanent Primogems Can Wait
Archon Quests, Story Quests, World Quests, Hangout Events, achievements, tutorials, and exploration all provide permanent rewards. Chests, Teleport Waypoints, Statues of The Seven, Shrines of Depths, offering systems, and regional objectives add Primogems as you clear the map. These rewards do not need to be collected in one week.
Follow the main story and collect what is close to your route. Use the in-game map to mark puzzles or locked areas you want to revisit. A new region may contain a large total, but running between random chest locations without finishing nearby quests can make the process slower and harder to track.
HoYoverse sometimes adds an extra, limited reward for completing a new Archon Quest during its release version. The normal quest remains after that period, while the extra reward can expire. Read the version event page when a new chapter arrives so you know which part has a deadline.
Codes, Mail, and Free Account Rewards
Version preview programs normally include short-lived redemption codes. Use the official Genshin Impact redemption page or the Redeem Code option in the game when available. These codes can expire quickly. Maintenance compensation, update gifts, awards, and special promotions may also arrive through in-game mail, which has its own claim deadline.
Only trust codes posted by official Genshin Impact channels or established outlets that link back to the announcement. A website promising a Primogem generator or asking for your password cannot add currency to your account. Never give another person your login, verification code, or account recovery information.
The HoYoLAB daily check-in can provide small account rewards, and some months include Primogems. The Stardust Exchange can also provide a limited number of Fates each month, but Stardust comes from making Wishes. Treat it as a return from previous pulls, not a free source that exists before you spend.

Use a Simple Saving Routine
- Claim all four daily rewards and the final commission reward.
- Finish the Primogem objectives in events before chasing optional high scores.
- Check official mail and redemption codes after a version program or update.
- Use quests and exploration when you want more permanent rewards.
- Keep Primogems for Intertwined Fates unless you deliberately want the Standard Wish.
Avoid using Primogems to refill Original Resin if your main goal is saving for characters. Resin restores naturally, while a Primogem spent on a refill is no longer available for Wishes. Decide on a target, estimate the guarantee using your Wish History, and stop pulling when the plan says to stop.
