Free Fire MAX utility is useful when it solves a specific problem. A standard Grenade can damage a player behind cover. Smoke can block sight during a crossing or revive. Gloo Melter attacks Gloo Walls. Flash Freeze creates an area that slows enemies and deals damage over time. Carrying the item is only the first step; the throw needs to support what the team does next.

Garena's current projectile directory lists Grenade, Smoke Grenade, Gloo Melter, Gloo Wall, and Flash Freeze. Availability can change by mode, store, map, and update. Check the current inventory and shop instead of assuming every throwable appears in every match.

Know What Each Throwable Is For

  • Grenade: use area damage to pressure a player behind a rock, inside a small room, or beside a wall. Throw where the opponent must move, not only where they were first seen.
  • Smoke Grenade: block a long sight line so the team can cross, revive, heal, or change position. Smoke detonates immediately after landing, so place it between the dangerous angle and the action you need to protect.
  • Gloo Melter: create a corrosive area that damages Gloo Walls and makes them take more damage from attacks. Use it before the team commits ammunition and movement to the push.
  • Flash Freeze: create a zone that slows an enemy and deals damage over time. Place it on a doorway, narrow route, or protected position to make staying there less useful.

This guide focuses on throwables, timing, and team movement. Use the Free Fire MAX Gloo Wall guide for wall placement, peeking, and defensive mistakes.

Do not hold a throwable while standing in an exposed lane. Select it behind cover, identify the landing point, step out only long enough to throw, then return to cover or move with the team. The longer the aiming arc is visible, the more time the opponent has to shoot or leave.

Use Utility in the Right Order

A coordinated push normally begins with information. Confirm the opponent's position, identify the cover or sight line causing the problem, choose the item that changes it, and tell teammates when the throw lands. Moving before the effect begins leaves the first player unsupported. Waiting too long gives the opponent time to reset.

  • Enemy behind a Gloo Wall: throw Gloo Melter first, then focus the damaged wall or cover the exits. Do not run into the corrosive area without checking the other side.
  • Enemy inside a room: place a Grenade or Flash Freeze where it covers the doorway, corner, or escape route. Hold the second exit instead of stacking every player at one door.
  • Open crossing: land smoke where it blocks the enemy's view of the route. Cross while the screen is active and stop at solid cover, not in the middle of the smoke.
  • Revive under pressure: block the clearest firing angle with smoke, keep one teammate watching the push, and leave a route out after the revive finishes.

Smoke protects both sides from sight. An enemy can use the same screen to move closer, change angle, or leave. Watch the edges and listen for movement instead of assuming the covered area is safe. When possible, place smoke closer to the enemy's view than to your final position so the team leaves the screen with more room to react.

Carry Utility for the Next Fight

Garena added a carrying limit of three standard Grenades in Battle Royale in the February 2025 update. Later updates can change limits or availability, so the current backpack and store remain the final check. Do not fill every slot with the same item when the squad still needs smoke for movement or an answer to Gloo Walls.

  • Carry a standard Grenade when the next fight is likely to involve rooms, rocks, or players holding a small protected space.
  • Keep smoke when the safe route includes open ground or when the squad may need to revive under a long sight line.
  • Keep Gloo Melter when opponents are building repeated wall layers or holding a position that cannot be pressured from another angle.
  • Keep Flash Freeze for doorways, narrow paths, and positions where slowing movement helps the team hold an angle.

Round purchases and team roles are covered in the Free Fire MAX Clash Squad guide. New players can review the beginner guide, while the complete Free Fire MAX guide connects every current guide.

After a failed throw, check the landing point and the team's timing. If the item landed correctly but nobody moved, improve the call. If the team pushed before the effect started, delay the movement. If the opponent left without taking damage, cover the escape route on the next attempt.
