PEAK’s last major content update is built like one final expedition. The Final Ascent adds two variant biomes, a new difficulty level, 10 badges, fresh luggage and climbing tools, balance changes, and a secret tied to the Scoutmaster’s lost troop. It also gives console players the clearest news they have had yet: ports are in development, and cross-platform play is planned.

The update is already live as version 2.0.a. For its first two weeks, every daily mountain uses GLOOM and THE CITADEL. After that launch window, the game will randomly choose between the new pair and the older CALDERA/THE KILN pair whenever the map rotates.

What The Final Ascent adds

How GLOOM and THE CITADEL enter the daily map rotation

GLOOM and THE CITADEL are not extra fifth and sixth stages added to every run. They are variants that replace existing biomes. GLOOM takes the place of CALDERA, while THE CITADEL takes the place of THE KILN on maps that use the new route.

The mountain still changes every 24 hours. During the first two weeks after the August 11 update, the new route is guaranteed, giving everyone time to learn the hazards. When that period ends, each daily map can roll either CALDERA/THE KILN or GLOOM/THE CITADEL.

That schedule also means groups do not need to rush through every secret in one evening. You can retry the same layout during the day, then return after the rotation to see how another mountain changes the route.

Ascent 8 and the new version of Ascent 7

Ascent 8 is now the highest official challenge. Team PEAK deliberately hid its description, so the first part of the difficulty is discovering what it changes. The patch notes do not reveal the condition, and the game is meant to show it when players reach that level.

Ascent 7 has a more cooperative rule. It no longer blocks revivals completely. Instead, scouts start cursed and receive additional curse when someone is revived. The old version could shut a group out of the mechanic that makes PEAK fun, while doing almost nothing meaningful to a solo run. The new rule keeps the danger without removing teamwork.

All confirmed new items

Jetpack

The Jetpack occupies the backpack slot and uses other items as fuel. Team PEAK describes it as a way to reach new heights, but the official notes do not publish a complete fuel chart. Expect it to be powerful, expensive to feed, and impossible to carry at the same time as a normal backpack.

Warp Fungus

Warp Fungus is a throwable mushroom with an intentionally vague effect. The official hint is simply to throw it and watch what happens. That makes it one of the update’s discovery items rather than a tool with a fully explained recipe.

Glider

The Glider is designed for horizontal distance. It uses stamina, so a long flight can become dangerous if you launch without enough left in the bar. It is movement gear for crossing gaps, not a replacement for climbing the next vertical wall.

Clown Luggage

Clown Luggage creates a separate home for the game’s stranger tools. The Lollipop, Cannon, and Balloon Bunch now spawn there instead of Climber Luggage. Opening one can give the group several playful items at once.

Badges, statues, and the hidden ending

The Final Ascent adds 10 badges with new cosmetics. It also places mysterious statues around the island and links them to the Scoutmaster’s original lost troop. The developer calls the result “super secret” and avoids explaining the steps.

That mystery is part of the update, so this hub does not pretend the official notes revealed a full solution. Players looking for the secret should watch for statues, unusual interactions, and badge descriptions while moving through the new biomes. A separate walkthrough only makes sense once the route can be verified cleanly in the live build.

Important balance and quality changes

The update fixes the random fall damage that could trigger when grabbing a wall with no stamina. Pitons should also respond more reliably, carried scouts now receive healing from Remedy Fungus, and several poison, blindness, controller, and animation bugs were corrected.

ROOTS is less punishing. Beetles are slightly less aggressive, spore mushrooms have a much smaller radius, wind disables those mushrooms for two extra seconds, and windstorms are spaced farther apart. MESA has also been lowered to sit closer to ALPINE’s height.

Solo climbers now receive Morale Boosts from campfires. Ancient Luggage is a little more common, the Cursed Skull doubles bonus stamina, and Energy Drink now removes a flat 50% Drowsy before returning 25% when the effect ends. You cannot build more Drowsy while the drink is active.

Is this really PEAK’s last update?

It is the last planned major content update, not the end of support. Team PEAK says the game was never designed as a live service. The small group combines developers from Aggro Crab and Landfall, and they want to return to their separate projects instead of turning PEAK into a forever game.

Bug fixes and maintenance will continue until the developers are happy with stability. Mods are also expected to remain important, although the team does not plan to add Steam Workshop support. It points players toward the existing community tools instead.
