Minecraft is getting a fourth dimension. Mojang used Minecraft Live to reveal The Sift, a new realm planned for Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027. It will be the game’s first new dimension in more than 14 years, joining the Overworld, Nether, and End.
The reveal was short. Mojang showed only a quick look at the vanilla version and one of its creatures, then saved most of the footage for Minecraft Dungeons II. That leaves plenty unanswered, but the announcement itself is official: The Sift is coming to the main game next year.
What is the Sift?
The Sift is a fractured, brightly colored world filled with glowing plants, strange terrain, and unfamiliar creatures. In Minecraft Dungeons II, players enter it through rifts and explore areas called Meadow and Carapace. The footage shows floating land, shifting colors, and enemies that look nothing like the mobs roaming the Overworld.
Mojang has not said how much of that design will carry into Java and Bedrock. The studio called the main-game clip a glimpse, so the Dungeons II version should be treated as an introduction to the place rather than a complete preview of its blocks, biomes, or progression.

When is the Sift coming to Minecraft?
Mojang says The Sift will reach Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027. There is no exact date, update name, or list of supported platforms yet. The announcement also did not explain how players will open a path to the dimension or what they will need to survive there.
Those details are likely being held for a later Minecraft Live or development post. The important part is that this is not a spin-off-only location. Mojang specifically named both editions of the main game.
Is this the End update players have been asking for?
No. The Sift is a separate fourth destination, not a remake of the End. Mojang did not announce new End biomes, structures, mobs, or a dragon overhaul during this reveal. Players can still want that update, but The Sift does not replace it.
That choice will probably split the community. A new dimension is a much larger surprise than another small content drop, while longtime players have spent years asking Mojang to rebuild the End. The studio has chosen a new world instead of revisiting the oldest one.
Can players visit the Sift before 2027?
Yes, but only in Minecraft Dungeons II. The spin-off launches September 29, 2026, and its story sends players through The Sift before the dimension arrives in Java and Bedrock. It is the earliest chance to see the setting, its creatures, and the visual ideas behind it.

Minecraft now has a genuine expansion point beyond the End. What Mojang still needs to show is what players will build there, what brings them back after the first visit, and whether The Sift can feel as essential as the Nether.
