Bill Skarsgård will play the protagonist in PHYSINT, Hideo Kojima’s upcoming action-espionage game. The casting was announced during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast, where Kojima also shared a new poster featuring Skarsgård and Charlee Fraser.

His character still has no name. Kojima Productions has not shown gameplay or announced platforms, a release window, or story details.

Bill Skarsgård is PHYSINT’s protagonist

Kojima said he and Skarsgård had followed each other’s work for years. Earlier in 2026, the actor completed costume fittings, scans and camera tests alongside Fraser. The behind-the-scenes footage gives us the first look at both actors in costume, but it does not reveal the scene or the characters they are playing.

Skarsgård is best known for playing Pennywise in It and for roles in Nosferatu, Barbarian, John Wick: Chapter 4 and Welcome to Derry. PHYSINT is his first announced lead role in a Kojima game.

What does the PHYSINT cast video show?

The official Xbox video follows Kojima as he meets Skarsgård and discusses the role. It also includes short clips from the costume and camera tests with Skarsgård and Fraser. There is no gameplay, story footage or character dialogue in the video.

That makes this a casting reveal rather than a trailer. The costumes are visible, but Kojima Productions has not explained whether they belong to a finished scene or were created only for the tests.

The confirmed PHYSINT cast now has four actors

Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe were announced in 2025. Fraser appeared in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Lee — also credited as Ma Dong-seok — starred in Train to Busan and Eternals, and Hamabe starred in Godzilla Minus One.

Kojima Productions has not named any of their characters. It says more cast members will be announced later.

PHYSINT is a new action-espionage game

PHYSINT is separate from Metal Gear, even though it returns Kojima to the genre most closely associated with that series. Kojima Productions describes it as its third original property and a project that brings together game development and film production.

The genre is still the only real clue about how it will play. Combat, mission structure, setting, technology and the protagonist’s role have not been explained.

Xbox is publishing, but platforms are still unknown

Xbox became the publisher after PlayStation ended its involvement in September 2026. The new agreement kept PHYSINT in development, but neither company announced an Xbox exclusivity plan or a list of launch platforms.

Our earlier PHYSINT publisher report explains the change, while the follow-up on Sony’s reported concerns covers the budget and schedule claims around PlayStation’s exit.

PHYSINT still has no release date

Xbox and Kojima Productions have not announced a release year or window. The September 17 reveal only moves the cast information forward.

The confirmed picture is simple: Skarsgård is the protagonist, Fraser, Lee and Hamabe are also in the cast, and Xbox is publishing the game. Character names, platforms, gameplay and timing are still secret.
