Bloodstained is going back into a castle — and this one changes while you explore it. A new Tokyo Game Show trailer for The Scarlet Engagement shows the two playable heroes, Leo and Alex, moving through a huge gothic map. The game is now targeting 2027. The footage gives players a clearer idea of the sequel’s combat and of what happens when daylight gives way to night.

The story goes back to 16th-century England, long before the events of Ritual of the Night. Leo and Alex enter the castle to confront Demon Lord Elias. Bloodstained’s appeal has always been the pleasure of finding one more door, monster or secret; the new map is being described by the team as its largest yet.

Why does the time of day matter?

The world follows a day-and-night cycle, so the same stretch of the map can present a different challenge later. The official update does not list every change that occurs after dark. It does make clear that the changing clock is part of exploration, not just a lighting effect. Players will need to learn the castle’s routes and notice what has changed when they return.

The new gameplay video shows the castle and a world that changes between day and night.

The trailer moves from grand stone halls to outdoor views and fights with grotesque creatures. There is room for platforming and searching between the larger battles. A wide view of the castle helps sell why this adventure needs two heroes: it looks like a place to revisit and slowly understand, not a corridor to rush through.

What is new in the fights?

The Scarlet Engagement introduces the Epiphany Combat System. The team says that special moves and combinations grow out of the way Leo and Alex fight. It has also confirmed crafting, cooking and visual armor changes, giving players more reasons to experiment between encounters. Those features are announced; exactly how rewarding they feel across a long game is something the trailer cannot prove.

Leo and Alex have different strengths, and the new footage emphasizes their partnership rather than presenting one silent hero. The combat has the speed and ornate effects fans expect from the series, but the quieter glimpses of the landscape may be just as important. This is a game about exploring as well as surviving.

When does it release?

The official update says 2027, without a day or month. The game is planned for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Some older storefront information may still show an earlier window, so the new announcement is the one to follow. There is no reason to treat 2027 as a firm calendar date until the publisher names one.

For longtime Bloodstained players, the new trailer’s promise is a familiar one with bigger room to breathe: a sprawling, dangerous castle and enough tools to make the next trip through it different from the last.
