Silent Hill: Townfall wants you to hear the danger before you see it. Konami and developer Screen Burn Interactive have explained how the upcoming game uses sound, a handheld CRTV and the PS5 controller to turn a walk across St. Amelia into a nerve-racking search. The release is set for September 24.

The story follows Simon, who arrives on the island by sea with little more than a need to “put things right.” A nurse named Zoe calls to him, but he does not recognize her or the place. Townfall is the first full-length Silent Hill game presented in first person, so Simon’s limited view becomes part of the fear.

The CRTV does more than replace the radio

Simon carries a small television-like device in one hand. The CRTV can pick up clues, help solve puzzles and reveal monsters moving nearby. That gives players a way to investigate before stepping into an exposed street or corridor. Screen Burn says the puzzles also reveal pieces of the island’s history, rather than existing only to open locked doors.

Our gameplay breakdown covers Simon tuning the CRTV, hiding from monsters, and solving story puzzles.

The setting is not a town abandoned for decades. The developers describe St. Amelia as a place that has suffered more recently, with signs of a community that once lived there. That difference matters: the horror comes from wondering what happened to recognizable people, not just from exploring empty buildings.

Sound and light keep changing the threat

With a narrow first-person view, 3D audio has more work to do. Footsteps and other sounds can suggest where a creature is even when it is out of sight. Ray-traced lighting changes the look of the fog, a flashlight beam and the sudden move into the red Otherworld. The team is aiming for tension that grows as players explore, rather than relying only on jump scares.

The controller adds a warning you can feel

On PS5, haptic feedback gives weapon swings and nearby heavy footsteps a physical pulse. Adaptive triggers make different firearms feel distinct. Motion controls can fine-tune the CRTV or help with aiming, and those controls can be customized in the menu. None of those details replaces the story, but they may make a weak signal or an approaching enemy harder to ignore.

Townfall still has to prove that those ideas work together across a full game. The official breakdown shows a clear direction: look carefully, listen closely and decide when to fight or hide. Simon, Zoe and a third figure named Richard remain part of a mystery the developers are keeping under wraps.
