The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition launched on August 11, 2026, bringing the 2011 co-op action RPG to current stores for $19.99. It is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
This is the same northern campaign many players remember, now easier to buy and run on modern hardware. You can play alone, swap between three heroes, or bring friends into the story through online or split-screen co-op.
The surprise release also left a few obvious questions. The store pages explain the platforms, price, characters, and co-op support, but they do not provide a full technical change list or confirm crossplay. Here is what is clear on launch day and what still needs an answer from Aspyr.
War in the North Legacy Edition Release Date
War in the North - Legacy Edition released on August 11, 2026 in the United States. The Xbox, Steam, and US Nintendo pages are live, and PlayStation released a launch trailer for the PS4 and PS5 versions.
There was no long preorder campaign or extended countdown. It arrived as a surprise release, so some regional stores may update at different times. If the game does not appear in your local search yet, check the official store for your platform instead of assuming that version was canceled.
Platforms
The confirmed platforms are:
- PC through Steam;
- PlayStation 4;
- PlayStation 5;
- Xbox Series X|S;
- Nintendo Switch;
- Nintendo Switch 2.
There is no Xbox One version in the current launch list. Xbox Series X|S owners receive the features shown on the new Xbox product page, including Smart Delivery, cloud saves, achievements, 4K support, and 60 fps or higher on supported Xbox hardware.
Price and Launch Discount
The US list price is $19.99 on Steam, Xbox, and Nintendo. Those stores showed a 10% launch discount, lowering the price to $17.99, when checked on August 11.
Launch discounts are temporary. The useful number for comparing the game later is the regular $19.99 price, not the discounted amount that may disappear after the opening sale. Prices and taxes can also differ by country and platform.
No Deluxe Edition, season pass, or paid upgrade bundle appears in the current listings. The Legacy Edition is sold as one complete game.
