The journey visits familiar places such as Rivendell, Lórien, the Lonely Mountain, and Mirkwood. Aragorn, Gandalf, and Elrond appear, but the three playable heroes remain at the center of the story.
Combat mixes swords, bows, magic, loot, character skills, and RPG progression. The group also receives help from Beleram, a Great Eagle who can strike enemies from above. The tone is bloodier and more direct than many Lord of the Rings games, which matches the Mature 17+ rating shown on Xbox.
