Aniimo is seventh on Steam’s global Top Sellers chart at the time of writing. The game is free to play, and Steam’s chart ranks games by revenue, so that placement does not mean it is the seventh most downloaded game. It does show that the new creature-catching RPG has become a visible release just days after its September 15 Steam launch.
If you have only seen the colorful creatures in screenshots, the basic idea is easy to understand. You travel across Idyll, find different Aniimo, catch them and use their abilities to explore. Some creatures appear only in certain places, weather or times of day. You can evolve many of them, so collecting is more than filling a list.
Twining is the big difference
Twining lets your character become one of the Aniimo you have caught. That is how you use creature skills directly. One may help you glide, while another lets you dive or burrow. Those moves can open a route, solve a puzzle or change the way a fight plays out. The Steam description presents catching and Twining as the main loop, rather than treating the creatures as pets that only follow behind you.
The game also has solo play, online co-op, PvP and cross-platform multiplayer listed on Steam. Egg Heist is a three-player mode that mixes searching the Lost Isles with battles against other teams. For players who would rather slow down, each Pathfinder has an RV and a Homeland area where they can grow crops and arrange decorations.
What are players saying on Steam?
Steam currently labels the English reviews Mostly Positive, with roughly 73% positive across more than 8,600 English-language reviews when we checked. That figure can change. It is a useful quick signal, not a substitute for reading what people liked or disliked about the parts you care about.
The Steam page lists in-app purchases and an online connection. If you are trying the free version, those are worth knowing up front. The listed minimum PC requirement includes 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 970 or RX 5600-class graphics card, along with 40 GB of storage. More powerful hardware is recommended.
