The Slasher Update launches on September 15, 2026, as a free update for all Fallout 76 players. Bethesda has not announced a separate paid edition or an early-access window. The new investigation, seasonal content, and the other gameplay additions begin with that update.
What is the Pint-Sized Slasher mystery?
Appalachia is dealing with a string of killings that resemble the work of the pre-War Pint-Sized Slasher, an infamous serial killer from Fallout’s history. Bethesda is deliberately leaving the central question open: did the original legend return, or are devoted copycats using the name to frighten the region?
The story will unfold over several weeks instead of appearing as one short quest. Breaking News emergency broadcasts will update the investigation with new leads, giving players a reason to return as the case develops. The broadcasts are part of the game’s world, so the mystery should feel like something happening across Appalachia rather than a single marker on the map.
What can players do in the update?
The investigation sends players into Infestations occupied by Slasher fanatics. Those areas already ask players to clear dangerous groups for rewards, and this update gives them a story reason to revisit them. New Daily Ops challenges add another repeatable way to fight through the cultists.
Players can also dig up graves while chasing clues. Bethesda’s earlier overview teases a later confrontation with the “Pint-Sized” imposter, along with a unique Power Armor set and a new weapon called the Super Slasher. The studio has not explained exactly when that confrontation unlocks or how long the full investigation will take.
The same overview lists two changes that sit beside the Slasher story. Unique weapon crafting will let players change Legendary mods on more than 80 named weapons, and a console upgrade is planned for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and older consoles. Those systems are not part of the case itself, but they affect how players will experience the wider update.

What is Season 26: Beware the Blood Moon?
Season 26 launches alongside The Slasher Update. Playing Fallout 76 earns S.C.O.R.E., which lets players collect Tickets and exchange them for seasonal rewards. Bethesda has shown several of the items coming with Beware the Blood Moon:
- Batty Skirt.
- Blood Moon Power Armor Paint.
- Creepy Cultist Well.
- Blood Moon Weather Control Station.
The season also sits alongside Fallout 76’s new Legacy Seasons system. That feature lets players work on the current season and one returning older season, so the update is adding a second reason to keep playing after the Slasher clues run out.
