Fangtopia releases October 26, 2026 for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. It is a single-player, cozy hex-tile puzzle builder with two confirmed modes: the shorter Fangtopia mode and the longer, more demanding Ghoulish mode. There is no public demo currently listed; the closed PC alpha announced in July has ended.
The date arrived with a detailed developer breakdown that finally explains how the cheerful Halloween theme connects to the scoring system. Fangtopia is not a conventional city builder with workers, taxes or combat. Each run gives the player a limited stack of landscape tiles, and the challenge is to connect terrain, complete objectives and keep the stack alive for as long as possible.

How Fangtopia plays
A run begins around a creepy castle on a hex grid. The player draws from a randomly generated stack and places landscape pieces so matching edges connect. Fields, towns, mountains, forests and railroads appear in the standard mode. A tile can contain more than one terrain type, so a useful placement may need to satisfy two different connections at once.
There is no timer. The pressure comes from the limited tile stack: when it runs out, the kingdom stops growing. Matching terrain scores points and advances objectives. Reaching score thresholds unlocks landmarks, and each landmark carries a placement challenge that returns more tiles when completed. The volcano example in the official breakdown asks for a field nearby and mountains around it.
That creates a clear loop: place tiles, connect terrain, earn a landmark, complete its objective and use the rewarded pieces to extend the run. Every move can be undone before the player commits to the next one, so a mistake does not have to end an otherwise strong board.
Fangtopia modes, terrain and interface
3 screenshotsMonsters are part of the puzzle, not enemies
Portals appear in the ocean around the growing island. Opening one summons a creature such as a gremlin, werewolf or banshee. Each monster prefers a particular habitat. Finding the right place for it grants bonus tiles, turning collection into another way to keep the board alive.
Landmarks and monsters are recorded in a Stickerbook, where their animated details can be inspected after discovery. The official material consistently describes the game as scare-free, so the ghosts, vampires and werewolves are residents to accommodate rather than threats to defeat.
Fangtopia mode vs. Ghoulish mode
Fangtopia mode
The standard mode is designed for a quicker session. It includes the core tile-matching, landmark, objective, creature and leaderboard systems. It is the more direct place to learn how terrain edges and bonus-tile rewards interact.
Ghoulish mode
Ghoulish mode adds rivers as a sixth terrain type. It also lets the player swap the next tile, introduces larger groups that must be placed together and starts with a bigger stack. The extra pieces support a longer run, but the added terrain and grouped placements make planning more complicated.
Absolutely Games says more modes may be revealed later. No names, rules or release timing for additional modes have been confirmed, so the launch comparison is currently limited to Fangtopia and Ghoulish.
What changes between PS5, Switch 2 and PC?
Secret Mode says the PS5 and Switch 2 editions contain the same content as the PC version and are optimized for each console. Global leaderboards are also confirmed. The announcement does not define whether one leaderboard is shared across every platform, so it is safer to treat cross-platform ranking, cross-save and account linking as unconfirmed.
Steam lists single-player, achievements and Family Sharing. Its minimum PC specification calls for Windows 10 or 11, an Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7850, and 400 MB of available storage.
Does Fangtopia have a demo?
No public Fangtopia demo is currently available on the official Steam or PlayStation pages checked September 2. Secret Mode opened applications for a closed PC alpha in July, but that registration window ended July 14. Old posts about the alpha should not be read as a current download offer.
The Steam page can still be wishlisted ahead of release. Secret Mode has not announced another playtest, a console demo or progress transfer from any pre-release build.
What is still unannounced
- Price and editions: no standard price, deluxe edition or preorder package has been detailed.
- Cross-save: not confirmed.
- Cross-platform leaderboard sharing: global leaderboards are confirmed, but the publisher has not explained whether the same board spans all three platforms.
- Additional modes: teased without names or rules.
