Vincent and Cid finally have the controls, not just a place in the party. A new Final Fantasy VII Revelation demo at Tokyo Game Show took players into the Whirlwind Maze and let them try both characters in combat. PlayStation’s hands-on report gives us a much clearer idea of how the trilogy’s final chapter will play.

The demo begins with Cid joining Cloud’s group, bringing the roster to eight. Black-robed figures wait along a path of cliffs and strange light, with Sephiroth deeper in the maze. The area is familiar to anyone who remembers the original game, but this is a hands-on look at the new combat, not an explanation of how the remake story ends.

Vincent’s monster form comes with a real cost

Vincent starts with gunfire. Repeated hits strengthen his special attacks, moving through Blood Moon, Execration and Retribution as the count grows. The gun does not need manual aiming in the demo, so his ranged attacks can quickly set up a harder hit.

Holding R1 sends Vincent onto all fours as a clawed creature. He can stay transformed as long as the player wants, and he can stagger enemies faster with a held Triangle attack. But there is a catch: his Chaos level rises over time and cuts his maximum HP. Staying a monster may win a fight faster, yet it also leaves less room for a mistake.

Cid fights above the ground

Cid uses his long spear to sweep across groups and chain attacks in the air. Timing another Square press as a blue aura appears opens follow-ups such as Dragon Spin, Hyper Dive and Ground Pound. His charged Target Spear can fire as many as five spears into enemies, making later moves like Skydive and Burst Spiral more effective.

The two newcomers feel different on paper. Vincent chooses when to gamble with his health. Cid sets up targets, then uses his reach and aerial moves to cash in. That is more interesting than simply giving the last two party members new weapons.

Summoner FITS asks Cloud to spend HP for a big hit

The demo also shows the Summoner FITS, one of four outfits that grant different combat abilities. Cloud can call Ifrit, Shiva or Titan for a limited time. A second command triggers Pledge Roar for heavy damage, but takes HP in return. Warrior, Knight and Black Mage are the other named FITS choices; this report focuses on Summoner in action.

Jenova Death fills the arena with fire and tentacles

The Whirlwind Maze ends with Jenova Death after a brief appearance from Sephiroth. The boss throws wide fire attacks, then grows tentacles that guard its body until the player destroys them. Later, those tentacles become flamethrowers. PlayStation’s demo team used Synergy Abilities and Limit Breaks to bring it down.

This is still a limited demo, not a verdict on the full game. It does establish what the playable pair bring to the team and how the new class system can change a major fight. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is due April 8, 2027; PlayStation tested the PS5 version.
