Bayonetta is coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds as the first new playable character in the game’s second year of updates. Sega has not announced her release date yet, but the character will be added through a free update rather than the paid Season Pass.
The teaser also confirms her Butterfly Witch machine and previews two separately sold collaboration packs based on Godzilla and Evangelion. Sega says the full Year Two roadmap will be presented on October 9 during the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds World Championship Finals.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Bayonetta update: quick facts
- Character: Bayonetta.
- Release status: Announced for Year Two; no release date has been confirmed.
- Price: Free character update.
- Machine: Butterfly Witch.
- Other additions: Bayonetta-specific emotes and sounds.
- Next official update: October 9, 2026, during the World Championship Finals.
What comes with the free Bayonetta update?
The free update adds Bayonetta as a playable racer, along with the Butterfly Witch vehicle. The machine uses the butterfly-and-wing design associated with the character, while her trackside presentation includes new emotes and character sounds.
Sega has not published a complete stat sheet, vehicle type, unlock requirement or list of voice lines. The teaser establishes the character and machine, but it does not confirm whether players will receive them automatically or need to complete an in-game objective.
The update extends the roster of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which launched in September 2025 and has continued to add racers and collaboration content.
When is Bayonetta’s release date?
Bayonetta does not have a confirmed release date. The official announcement places her in Year Two and identifies her as the first new character for that period, but it does not attach a month, day or update number.
The next dated event is October 9. Sega will reveal the full Year Two roadmap during the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds World Championship Finals, making that presentation the confirmed place to look for scheduling details. A release before or immediately after the event should not be assumed.
What the Godzilla and Evangelion footage shows
The teaser also previews two paid collaboration packs. The Godzilla pack includes the Godzilla Escape course and three machines: Godzilla Cruiser, King Ghidorah Coupe and Mothra Surf. The Evangelion pack includes the Tokyo-III course, EVA-01, EVA-00 and EVA-02 machines, plus Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley as playable racers.
Those packs are separate from Bayonetta’s free character update. The footage does not turn Bayonetta into part of either collaboration bundle, and Sega has not announced a combined Year Two package in the current material.
What is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds?
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is Sega’s dimensional racing game built around Travel Rings that move racers between different courses during a race. It supports one to four players locally and online fields of up to 12, with cross-platform online play on supported systems.
The game released on September 25, 2025 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam and Epic Games Store. Sega’s current official site also lists Nintendo Switch 2. Players can customize machines and equip gadgets that change how a race is approached.

Sega is also expanding other screen properties. Pixel Twelve’s report on the Crazy Taxi movie and new Sonic series covers the company’s separate Netflix projects.
Where to follow the Year Two roadmap
The October 9 championship broadcast is the next confirmed Year Two information point. Until that presentation, Bayonetta’s exact date, update size, vehicle statistics and unlock method remain unannounced.
New confirmed details will be tracked in the Games section and the broader News feed. The current announcement is enough to confirm Bayonetta, her machine and the free-update model, but not a release window.
