The game supports one to four players locally and online races with up to 12 participants. Cross-platform online play is available on supported systems. Sega lists PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC among the current platforms.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds released on September 25, 2025. Sega continues to support it with free character updates and separately sold collaboration DLC. Bayonetta is the first new playable character announced for Year Two, with a free update that also adds her Butterfly Witch machine, character emotes and sounds.
