Shawn Levy and his company, 21 Laps Entertainment, have signed a multiyear television deal with Disney’s 20th Television. The agreement is for developing and producing new series across Disney Entertainment’s platforms. Variety reports that the new arrangement begins in October 2027.
What changes for Stranger Things?
Levy has spent nearly a decade working with Netflix. He executive produced all five seasons of Stranger Things and directed several episodes, while 21 Laps also worked on shows including Shadow and Bone. His new Disney agreement is about future television development; it does not move Stranger Things to Disney.
Levy says he still expects to work with the Duffer brothers on the Stranger Things universe at Netflix. That distinction matters for viewers following the franchise: the company behind new shows can change without an existing show changing homes.
A return to a familiar studio
Levy already has a long history with Disney. He co-wrote and directed Deadpool & Wolverine, is directing Star Wars: Starfighter, and is attached to Marvel’s Ghost Rider. Earlier in his career, he directed episodes of Disney Channel’s The Famous Jett Jackson. The new contract specifically concerns television work at 20th Television, not a newly announced film slate.
Disney has not named a series, cast or premiere date under this agreement. For now, the concrete news is where 21 Laps will develop its next television projects — alongside Levy’s stated plan to keep collaborating on Stranger Things.
