The new Scrubs poster brought back a familiar question: where are Carla and Dr. Cox? J.D., Turk and Elliot get the spotlight in ABC’s Season 2 promotion, and fans on r/Scrubs immediately started asking about the rest of the Sacred Heart crew. The good news for Carla and Cox fans is that ABC has already shown both characters in new photos. Other requests, including the Janitor’s return, are still open.
Carla is in the new photos
One fan looking at the poster asked:
“Still don't get, why Carla or Cox aren't part of the main cast.”
That is a fair question about the poster, but Carla has not vanished from Season 2. ABC published a September 22 press photo of Judy Reyes as Carla walking through Sacred Heart with Donald Faison, Zach Braff and Sarah Chalke. The photo shows she is involved; it does not tell us how many episodes she will appear in.
Judy Reyes returned as Carla in the first season of the revival, too. ABC’s own description of “My Best Friend’s Barbecue” has J.D. spending time with her at work. If the poster made her look absent, the new picture answers at least that part of the worry.
Dr. Cox is part of the September 30 premiere
There is an even clearer answer for Dr. Cox. ABC says J.D. asks Turk and Elliot to help with Cox’s care in “My First Time in a While,” the first episode airing September 30. The network also released a new photo of John C. McGinley as Cox at the hospital. It has not said exactly what happens to him, so viewers will have to watch the episode for that answer.

Fans are still asking about the Janitor and J.D.’s son
The comments did not stop with Carla and Cox. Another fan wrote:
“I want OG Janitor back 😔”
Others asked whether the revival will catch up with Sam, J.D.’s son. ABC’s descriptions of the first two Season 2 episodes do not mention the Janitor or Sam. That is not proof they are gone for the whole season; it only means their return or story has not been announced in those episode details. Neil Flynn played the Janitor in the original show.
Why does the poster call it Season 2?
The season number started its own argument. Some fans call this Season 11 because the original Scrubs ran for nine seasons before the 2026 revival. ABC lists the revival separately, with its February 2026 episodes as Season 1 and the September return as Season 2. Both labels are counting from different starting points; ABC’s is the one used on its new episode listings.
Not every response was a complaint. One commenter simply said:

Other fans liked seeing Turk in the design and were happy that the new season arrived only months after the revival’s first finale. The two-episode premiere airs September 30 on ABC, starting at 8 p.m. ET. The episodes stream the next day on Hulu in the United States.
