Futurama ended its 14th season on September 28, but the show is not disappearing. Three longer Hulu specials are already in production. The first is planned for 2027, and Matt Groening says Robot Santa will be part of its Christmas story.
The season finale is called “Final Ending: The Last Conclusion.” That name sounds permanent, but it is a joke about how many times Futurama has come back after a finale. Hulu has not announced another regular season. For now, the confirmed next releases are the three specials.
Is Futurama over?
Speaking to Variety after the finale, creator Matt Groening said he still wants to tell more stories with Fry, Leela, Bender and the rest of the crew. He is not treating the end of season 14 as a final goodbye:
“They can put us in a coffin. They can nail the lid shut, but they can’t bury us. We will rise again.”
That does not mean season 15 has been ordered. It means the team has three specials to make, and Groening hopes there will be more after them. He did not give a date for another full season.
What do we know about the specials?
The first special is due in 2027 and has a Christmas story involving Robot Santa. Groening did not reveal its exact release date. He also kept the other two stories secret. All three are being made as longer episodes for Hulu, giving the writers more room than a regular half-hour installment.
The team first announced the three-special plan at San Diego Comic-Con. Groening told Variety that some old questions about the characters may get answers in them. He stopped short of saying what those answers are, so there is no confirmed plot to share for specials two and three.
What happens in the season 14 finale?
“Final Ending: The Last Conclusion” goes back to Fry’s childhood. Fry and his brother Yancy sneak into a movie they are too young to see, and the trip changes what happens later. The episode uses that childhood story to look at a family relationship the series has returned to before.
The official photos show the brothers together as children, along with scenes involving the wider Planet Express crew. If you have not watched the finale yet, those images give a better idea of its focus without revealing how the story ends.

All 14 seasons are listed on Hulu in the US, including the September 28 finale. Hulu also offers the show through Hulu on Disney+ for eligible US bundle subscribers. Disney+ carries the series internationally, though its catalog can vary by country. The first new special is planned for 2027; Hulu has not announced a day or month.
