War starts October 1 on HBO Max in the US. In the UK, the Sky Original begins October 2 on Sky and NOW. The first season has eight episodes, released weekly rather than all at once. It is a legal drama about a divorce that puts two powerful London law firms against each other.
What happens in season one?
Dominic West plays Morgan Henderson, a tech entrepreneur. Sienna Miller plays Carla Duval, an international film star and Morgan's wife. Their split becomes the case that both law firms want to win. The lawyers are not just handling paperwork: the case affects careers, friendships and the people involved in the marriage.
Archie Renaux plays Johnny Warren, a young lawyer pulled into the dispute. George Kay, who created Lupin and Hijack, created and wrote War. Ben Taylor is the lead director. Sky and HBO have already ordered a second season, but this first eight-episode story is about Morgan and Carla's divorce.
Who represents each side?
At Taylor & Byrne, Phoebe Fox plays Serena Byrne and James McArdle plays Nicholas Taylor. They are partners at work and in life. At the rival firm Cathcarts & Sons, Nina Sosanya plays Beatrice “Queen Bea” Ubosi and Pip Torrens plays St John Smallwood. Those four lawyers lead the two sides of the case, while Johnny tries to make a name for himself.

The cast also includes Celia Imrie, Nick Mohammed, Emma Laird and Archie Panjabi. Their names are part of the announced ensemble, but the central setup is easy to follow without memorizing everybody before episode one: Morgan and Carla are divorcing, and two firms want the case.

The US HBO Max release is Thursday, October 1, with a new episode each Thursday. HBO's October lineup confirms the eight-episode weekly run. Sky and NOW start Friday, October 2 in the UK, also as a weekly series. Sky says the drama will be available in other territories through its regional services and HBO Max, but dates can differ; check your local listing rather than assuming the US date applies everywhere.
