Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It launched August 27, 2026, and is included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on supported Xbox, PC, cloud, and handheld devices. Focus Entertainment says the game can be completed in approximately 20 hours.
This is a prequel rather than a direct continuation of Amicia and Hugo’s story. Sophia, the smuggler introduced in A Plague Tale: Requiem, steps into the lead role for an adventure set 15 years earlier. Her journey trades some of the series’ helplessness for faster melee combat, while keeping its puzzles, tension, and interest in the Macula.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Release Date
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy released on August 27, 2026.
The game is live on Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The official storefronts now show purchase or subscription access.
There was no separate early-access period for the standard game. August 27 is the shared release date across the official PC and console listings.
Platforms and Game Pass
The confirmed platforms are:
- PC through Steam and the Xbox app
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Xbox Cloud Gaming through Game Pass support
There is no PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch version listed. The PS5 version is marked as PS5 Pro Enhanced and supports DualSense vibration and trigger effects.
Resonance is available through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Xbox lists support across cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld, and PC where the relevant plan and device are supported. Xbox Play Anywhere also lets a digital Xbox purchase work across Xbox console and Windows PC with compatible ownership and saves.
Price and Heritage Pack
The US PlayStation and Xbox stores list the game at $59.99. Steam lists the PC version at $49.99 in the United States. Prices can differ by platform and region, so the final amount should be checked in the buyer’s local store.
The Heritage Pack was the preorder bonus and is now sold separately for $3.99 on the US PlayStation Store and Steam. It contains:
- the Minoan Sword;
- Alec’s Pendant;
- an exclusive digital art book.
The two equipment items affect gameplay rather than serving only as cosmetics. The official PlayStation listing says every third hit with the Minoan Sword triggers a stronger stunning strike, while Alec’s Pendant boosts charm stats. The art book is digital.
The current official stores list the standard game and the separate Heritage Pack. They do not list a Deluxe Edition or season pass.
What Is Resonance About?
The story begins 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem. Sophia is living in Venice, where she was raised around one of the city’s most feared gangs and learned to survive through fighting and plundering expeditions.
Strange visions pull her away from the life she knows. She travels with her closest friend, Leni, to an island shaped by the myth of the Minotaur. The place is full of ruins, dangerous trials, armed enemies, and a presence that appears to follow Sophia through the shadows.
Her goal is personal: understand why the island feels connected to her past and uncover the truth behind a forgotten curse. The Macula still sits at the center of the wider mystery, but the setting lets Asobo explore it through Minoan mythology instead of repeating the exact route taken by Amicia and Hugo.
Who Is Sophia?
Players first met Sophia in A Plague Tale: Requiem, where she helped Amicia and Hugo during their journey. Resonance moves back in time and shows a younger version of her before that meeting.
Sophia is not built like the previous leads. She grew up fighting and approaches danger with speed, precision, and confidence. Her background gives the game room for direct combat without turning her into a copy of Amicia.
No, you do not need to play A Plague Tale: Innocence or Requiem first. Focus Entertainment says newcomers can get the full experience without either earlier game. Knowing Requiem adds context to Sophia’s future, but Resonance begins its own central mystery 15 years earlier.
How the Gameplay Is Different
Resonance still mixes story, exploration, danger, and puzzles, but Sophia changes the rhythm. She can meet enemies at close range instead of relying almost entirely on stealth and improvised tools.
Melee Combat
Sophia can attack, block, parry, dodge, and use finishers. Official footage shows encounters with several enemies at once, so positioning and timing appear to be more important than waiting for one safe path through every area.
Combat is not the only option. Focus Entertainment still describes moments where Sophia must hide, outsmart a threat, and keep moving. The result looks more action-focused than the earlier games without abandoning their tension.
Exploration and Puzzles
Minotaur Island is designed around maze-like paths, hidden routes, ancient ruins, and environmental puzzles. Sophia keeps a notebook containing information gathered by her crew, which helps her follow clues and piece together what happened on the island.
One of the main puzzle tools is a stolen Minoan sphere. It manipulates light and connects to mechanisms created around the myth of Daedalus. The sphere is more than a single-use story object; official descriptions place it at the center of several puzzle sequences.

Two Time Periods
The story moves between Sophia’s medieval era and the ancient Minoan past. These sections follow two connected characters whose lives are tied to the Macula.
Official materials confirm a dual-timeline mystery linking Sophia’s Middle Ages journey with Theseus in the ancient Minoan era. They do not claim that both playable perspectives occupy equal amounts of the game.
Is Resonance Open World?
An open world has not been confirmed. Official descriptions talk about a detailed island, larger combat spaces, hidden paths, and a labyrinth-like structure. Those features can support exploration without making the game fully open world.
The official store descriptions do not label Resonance as an open-world game. Its maze-like routes, ruins, and story-driven areas are better understood as crafted environments than as a promise of unrestricted traversal across the entire island.
Is Resonance Multiplayer?
No. Steam lists Resonance as single-player, and the PlayStation Store lists support for one player. Neither store lists a co-op or competitive mode.
Game Pass availability does not change that. It gives subscribers access to the game, but it does not add multiplayer features.
How Long Is Resonance?
Official estimate: approximately 20 hours. Focus Entertainment says Resonance can be completed in about 20 hours. That is the publisher’s general completion figure, not a separate completionist estimate.
Actual time can still vary with difficulty, exploration, puzzle speed, and retries. Players who investigate every path may take longer, while a direct run may be shorter.
How Big Is the Resonance Download?
Focus Entertainment lists approximate storage sizes of 76 GB on PC, 58 GB on PS5, and 66 GB on Xbox. Steam separately requires 75 GB of available SSD space on PC. Download and installed sizes can differ and may change with patches, so leaving extra storage headroom is sensible.
PC System Requirements
Minimum PC requirements: Windows 10/11 64-bit; Ryzen 3 3100 or Core i3-12100; 16 GB RAM; Radeon RX 5500 XT or GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB VRAM; DirectX 12; and 75 GB on an SSD. Steam targets 1080p at 30 fps on Low for this tier.
Recommended PC requirements: Windows 10/11 64-bit; Ryzen 5 5600X or Core i5-12400F; 16 GB RAM; Radeon RX 6700 XT or GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with 8 GB VRAM; DirectX 12; and 75 GB on an SSD. Steam targets 1080p at 60 fps on Ultra for this tier. Both tiers require DX12.1 and Shader Model 6.6 support.
Does Resonance Have Rats?
The official launch and store materials focus on human enemies, Minoan myths, puzzles, and the creature stalking the island. They do not advertise the rat-swarm mechanics that defined the earlier games.
The Macula still matters to the story, but that is separate from promising rats as a gameplay system. The safest confirmed answer is that rat swarms are not part of the advertised feature set; this guide does not turn unverified sightings or spoilers into a broader claim.
What Is Still Unconfirmed After Launch?
The release date, platforms, Game Pass access, prices, Heritage Pack, single-player format, Focus Entertainment’s approximately 20-hour completion estimate, platform storage sizes, PC requirements, and 36 Steam achievements are confirmed. Two useful details still lack a specific official answer:
- a separate completionist-specific playtime estimate beyond the approximate 20-hour completion figure;
- a post-launch roadmap or additional content beyond the Heritage Pack.
Those open questions do not block a buying decision: the current stores provide enough information to compare platforms, subscription access, prices, and PC hardware requirements.
