The gamescom Awards 2026 produced 19 winners across Arts, Platform, and Global categories. CD PROJEKT RED and SEGA led the results with three awards apiece, while Capcom and Ubisoft each collected two. METRO 2039 won Best Visuals, Onimusha: Way of the Sword took Best Gameplay and Best Sony PlayStation Game, and Games Done Quick received the special-jury Heart of Gaming award.

Gamescom Awards 2026 winners at a glance

  • Total categories: 19.
  • Top award totals: CD PROJEKT RED and SEGA with three each.
  • Double winner: Onimusha: Way of the Sword, for Best Gameplay and Best Sony PlayStation Game.
  • Best Xbox game: Forza Horizon 6.
  • Best PC game: Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000.
  • Best Switch 2 game: Rayman Legends Retold.
  • Special recognition: Games Done Quick received Heart of Gaming.

The winners were announced on Friday, August 28. The awards cover games, trailers, booths, merchandise, and exhibitors represented at gamescom; they are not a general game-of-the-year ranking for every 2026 release.

All seven Arts category winners

  • Best Visuals — METRO 2039, developed by 4A Games and published by Deep Silver.
  • Best Audio — Alien: Isolation 2, from Creative Assembly and SEGA.
  • Best Gameplay — Onimusha: Way of the Sword, from Capcom.
  • Most Entertaining — Wanderburg, from Randwerk and Sidekick Publishing.
  • Most Epic — Tides of Annihilation, from Eclipse Glow Games.
  • Most Wholesome — Finding Polka, from lidlocks and Parco Games.
  • Games for Impact — SOKO 1977: Anti-Terror Task Force, from Paintbucket Games and the Federal Agency for Civic Education.

These seven results recognize different strengths rather than naming one overall winner. A game can lead on presentation, sound, mechanics, tone, scale, comfort, or social purpose, which is why the list ranges from major action releases to smaller projects.

All five Platform category winners

  • Best Microsoft Xbox Game — Forza Horizon 6, from Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios.
  • Best PC Game — Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000, from Creative Assembly and SEGA.
  • Best Sony PlayStation Game — Onimusha: Way of the Sword, from Capcom.
  • Best Nintendo Switch 2 Game — Rayman Legends Retold, from Ubisoft.
  • Best Mobile Game — Where Winds Meet, from Everstone Studio and NetEase Games.

The labels identify the best entries submitted for each platform category at the event. They do not make every winner exclusive to the named system. Onimusha, for example, can win the PlayStation category while still launching on additional platforms.

All seven Global category winners

  • Best Lineup (Jury) — SEGA.
  • Best Booth (Jury) — The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past, from CD PROJEKT RED.
  • Best Booth (Consumer) — Arknights: Endfield, from GRYPHLINE.
  • Best Business Booth (Jury) — Ubisoft Business Lounge.
  • Best Merch (Consumer) — The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past — Pin & Medallion, from CD PROJEKT RED.
  • Best Trailer/Announcement (Consumer) — The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered & Songs of the Past DLC, from CD PROJEKT RED.
  • Heart of Gaming (Special Jury) — Games Done Quick.

The parenthetical labels matter. Some Global awards reflect the expert jury, some reflect consumer voting, and Heart of Gaming is a special-jury recognition. The two Best Booth prizes are therefore separate results, not a duplicated category.

How CD PROJEKT RED and SEGA reached three awards each

CD PROJEKT RED swept three Global categories tied to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past. Its presentation won the jury-selected Best Booth, its Pin & Medallion won the consumer-voted Best Merch category, and the combined Remastered and Songs of the Past reveal won the consumer-voted Best Trailer/Announcement award.

That result makes the studio’s gamescom showing broader than a single game trophy. Readers who want the actual reveal details can continue with Pixel Twelve’s The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past breakdown, which covers Letten, its monsters, and the 2027 release window.

SEGA’s three-award total came from a different mix. The publisher won Best Lineup, while two Creative Assembly games added Best Audio for Alien: Isolation 2 and Best PC Game for Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000. It was a portfolio result rather than three prizes for one project.

Why Capcom and Ubisoft finished with two awards

Capcom’s two wins both belonged to Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Best Gameplay recognized the game in the Arts group, and Best Sony PlayStation Game recognized it in the Platform group. Winning across both groups is the clearest example in this list of one playable title succeeding in two different award structures.

Pixel Twelve’s Onimusha demo update guide explains the Daidara boss, save-data reward, and September 4 launch for readers who want to try that combat before release.

Ubisoft’s two awards were split between products and exhibition. Rayman Legends Retold won Best Nintendo Switch 2 Game, while the Ubisoft Business Lounge won the jury-selected Best Business Booth category.

What METRO 2039’s Best Visuals award means

METRO 2039 won Best Visuals, one of the seven Arts categories. The award is a result for the version presented at gamescom, not a review score for the unfinished full release. It establishes that the official jury-and-community award process selected its visual presentation over the other eligible entries in that category.

For more on 4A Games’ new project, the existing METRO 2039 Collector’s Edition guide covers the Spartan helmet, pre-order status, and official newsletter competition without duplicating this winners list.

How the gamescom Awards are decided

Gamescom separates the awards into Arts, Platform, and Global groups. The official program explains that the selection method changes by category: expert-jury and community input are used across the game awards, while several Global labels explicitly identify a Jury, Consumer, or Special Jury decision.

That structure is why the wording in the full list should be preserved. Best Booth (Jury) and Best Booth (Consumer) answer different questions, while Best Business Booth applies to the trade-facing part of the show. Combining them into one generic booth winner would erase the actual result.

The same caution applies to platform categories. A Platform award is not an exclusivity announcement, a technical-performance guarantee, or a complete ranking of every game sold on that platform. It is an event award among the eligible games in that gamescom category.

Why Games Done Quick received Heart of Gaming

Games Done Quick received Heart of Gaming through the special jury. The organization is known for speedrunning events built around charitable fundraising and community participation. In the official results, that recognition sits apart from the game, platform, booth, trailer, and merchandise competitions.

Because it is a special-jury award, it should not be described as a public vote or as GDQ beating the game nominees. It recognizes a contribution to gaming culture under a separate Global category.

The awards list answers who won. For a broader editorial view of the show floor, read 10 games everyone was talking about at gamescom 2026. That feature is a separate shortlist, not an award ranking.

Pixel Twelve also retains its Opening Night Live start-time and viewing guide as the schedule record for the broadcast. The two URLs serve different reader needs and should not be treated as interchangeable.

The final 2026 results show an event split between major publishers, new releases, indie projects, community voting, jury decisions, and cultural recognition. CD PROJEKT RED and SEGA finished with the largest totals, but the 19-category structure deliberately rewards more than one kind of achievement.
