Electronic Arts has acknowledged that unfinished footage from its untitled Iron Man game leaked online. The publisher did not plan to show the project this way, but its response confirms that Motive’s long-quiet Marvel game is still active.
After Kotaku asked EA about the clip on August 28, the publisher directed the outlet to the official Iron Man game account on X. The account said the reveal had not gone as planned and promised more information when the team is ready. That is an acknowledgment of the footage, not a release announcement or a formal gameplay presentation.
EA confirmed the leak, not a launch date
EA’s response establishes that the video came from the Motive project. It does not say how old the build is, whether every scene is still in development, or when the public will see an official trailer. The clip carried an “AUG26 TEST” watermark and included unfinished material, so it should be read as a development snapshot rather than a feature list.
The official Motive page still describes the game as a single-player, third-person action-adventure made with Marvel Games. EA has not announced a final title, release window, platforms, or a complete cast of characters.
The project started with a very different announcement
EA and Marvel first announced the game in 2022 as the first project in a larger partnership. Motive said it was building an original story around Tony Stark’s history, personality, and abilities, with Olivier Proulx leading the team after his work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Motive’s own updates stressed that the game was in pre-production and would take years to make. The current leak does not replace that timeline. It shows that the team has been testing the project, but it does not reveal how close the game is to a finished build.
What the unfinished video appeared to show
Reports describe Tony Stark flying over a large city, using missiles and repulsors in aerial combat, and fighting enemies on the ground. The clip also appeared to include Pepper Potts and James Rhodes, along with a look at Stark’s face and a possible suit-customization screen.
Those observations come from an internal-looking video, not from EA’s confirmed feature list. The city was not identified by the publisher, and early descriptions offered different guesses. It would be wrong to present the location, enemies, supporting characters, or customization system as locked for the final game.
The flight footage is the part fans noticed first
The leaked clip drew attention because Iron Man takes off, changes direction, and attacks while airborne. That is the basic fantasy a game like this has to sell, and viewers immediately compared the movement to Anthem, another EA title known for jet-powered flight.
A comparison is not evidence that the two games share technology or design. It only describes what the short test video looked like. Motive has not explained the flight model, the size of the world, or whether players can travel freely outside missions.
Motive has kept the official details narrow
The public information remains deliberately broad: a new Iron Man story, a single-player format, third-person action, and collaboration with Marvel Games. Motive’s earlier team material named Proulx, Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier, but it did not announce a release plan or playable supporting roster.
A 2024 Motive update said the studio was still in early pre-production and had chosen Unreal Engine 5. That update is useful context for the leak, but it does not prove that the current test build uses every system the studio discussed at the time.
Do not confuse it with the other Iron Man leak
Another Iron Man video circulated earlier in the week from an unrelated canceled project by Avalanche Studios. That older footage is not EA Motive’s game. Characters, locations, or mechanics visible in one video cannot be carried over to the other project.
What fans still need to know
EA has not confirmed the game’s final name, release date, platforms, villains, setting, or supporting cast. It also has not said whether the flight and combat shown in the leak will remain unchanged. The company’s next proper reveal should answer those questions with footage it can stand behind.
For now, the leak gives fans one solid update: the Iron Man project is not a forgotten 2022 announcement. EA knows the video is out, Motive is still attached, and the publisher says a planned look is coming later.
