Does Worms: Galactic Tactics have a release date?

It has a release window, not a calendar date. Team17’s current press hub says Coming 2027, while Steam lists the planned release date as To be announced. Those two official pages are not in conflict: one gives the year and the other confirms that no month or day is public yet.

No preorder, edition lineup, launch discount, demo, or beta has been announced. A store wishlist button is available, but wishlisting is not a purchase and does not reserve access. Any listing that supplies a specific day before Team17 does should be treated as a placeholder.

Every confirmed platform

Team17 names four launch targets: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam on PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The official publisher material does not name PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or the original Nintendo Switch. There is also no announced macOS or Linux version.

The Xbox listing covers both Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC and marks the game as Xbox Play Anywhere. Steam remains a separate PC storefront. Team17 has not explained whether progression or purchases can move between the Steam build and the Xbox ecosystem.

How the Galactic Gauntlet works

The Galactic Gauntlet is a multi-stage deathmatch run. A custom squad moves through hand-crafted arenas, faces new enemy classes and champion bosses, and collects upgrades between battles. The long-term objective is to climb the rankings and confront Emperor Flugg, the ruler presented as the gauntlet’s final target.

Official examples range from Candyland to the Emperor’s palace. A failed run is part of the loop rather than a simple reload: after the squad dies, the player cashes in Juice to improve the Worms before starting again. Team17 has not published a final arena count, boss list, or campaign length.

What changed from classic 2D Worms combat

Galactic Tactics moves the series into fully destructible 3D arenas while keeping turn-based decisions, explosive barrels, familiar gadgets, and environmental damage. Movement, weapons, and utilities can be chained during a turn, so positioning a Worm and changing the terrain are part of the same tactical plan.

Shots use skill minigames instead of resolving only from a selected target. High ground can improve aim, and timing a shot can produce a critical hit. Item crates add temporary options during a battle. The result is still tactical, but execution matters after the player chooses the move.

Weapon mods, classic tools, and new additions

After each battle, the mod system offers new ways to change the squad’s arsenal. Team17’s examples include stronger Bazooka blasts, life drain on Fire Punch, a Grapple that can stun, generated shields, knockback, ally buffs, and fire effects. Mods can be combined into a specialized loadout for the next stage.

The announced arsenal mixes established Worms tools with new weapons. Team17 specifically names the Beambow, Meteor Sheep, Die-napple, and Cosmic Donkey, while screenshots also show the Bazooka, Fire Punch, Grapple, Blaster, Uzi, Grenade, and Shotgun. That is a confirmed sample, not a complete launch list.

Juice progression and squad customization

Juice is the named resource carried out of a failed gauntlet run and used to upgrade the Worms before the next attempt. The official pages establish persistent improvement, but they do not yet show a complete upgrade tree or explain whether every weapon, modifier, and cosmetic is unlocked through the same system.

Squads can also be personalized with names, hats, voicebanks, and gravestones. Those choices are cosmetic in the current description; Team17 has not said that a hat or voice changes stats. The confirmed enemy lineup includes specialist classes and champion bosses, but individual class rules remain to be detailed.

Is Worms: Galactic Tactics co-op?

No co-op mode has been announced. Steam’s official description promises 1v1 multiplayer both locally and online, and Xbox lists local and online multiplayer for two players. That supports head-to-head competition, not two players sharing a Galactic Gauntlet run.

Team17 has not confirmed larger lobbies, team battles, online co-op, ranked matchmaking, crossplay, or cross-progression. It has also not specified whether every platform will offer identical local and online options. Until the publisher provides those details, 1v1 is the only safe multiplayer expectation.

Xbox Play Anywhere is confirmed, but Game Pass is not

The Xbox Store marks Worms: Galactic Tactics as Xbox Play Anywhere, alongside achievements and Xbox Series X|S optimization. That is useful for players who use the Xbox ecosystem on console and Windows PC. It does not establish compatibility with the separate Steam version.

Neither Team17 nor the Xbox product listing announces that the game will join the Game Pass catalog. A standard subscription requirement for online console multiplayer is not the same as Game Pass inclusion. Players should wait for a direct catalog announcement before treating it as a day-one subscription release.

Current PC system requirements

Steam currently marks the minimum and recommended operating system, processor, and graphics fields as TBC. It does not provide final RAM, storage, or graphics-card targets. The screenshots and trailer are not enough to estimate a dependable build, so a PC buying guide would be premature.

What Team17 still has not announced

  • Exact release date: only the 2027 window is official.
  • Price and editions: no price, preorder, collector’s edition, or launch bundle is listed.
  • PC specifications: Steam’s fields remain TBC.
  • Crossplay and cross-progression: there is no policy connecting Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo accounts.
  • Additional multiplayer modes: co-op, teams, larger lobbies, and ranked play are not confirmed.
  • Full content counts: the final number of arenas, bosses, weapons, mods, and customization items is unknown.

The Worms: Galactic Tactics game page keeps the official trailer, confirmed platforms, release status, images, and future Pixel Twelve coverage together.
