Most limited-edition consoles change the color of the plastic and stop there. Sony's new Wolverine PS5 is covered with an actual drawing. Comic artist Jock put Logan's face across the upper plates in heavy black ink, while three claw marks cut through the yellow below.
Sony revealed the hardware through the official PlayStation Blog. The $649.99 Battle Yellow bundle includes a PS5 Digital Edition, the illustrated console covers, a matching DualSense controller, and a download code for Marvel's Wolverine. The game and the hardware arrive on September 15.
It is a loud design, but Wolverine has never been a character who benefits from careful little accents. The black ink, bright yellow plastic, and scratched surfaces are closer to a comic cover than a normal piece of home electronics.
What the $649.99 Bundle Includes
The console inside the bundle is the PS5 Digital Edition, so it does not include a disc drive. Buyers receive the limited covers, the yellow-and-black controller, and a digital copy of Marvel's Wolverine. The vertical stand shown in Sony's promotional images is sold separately.
Preorders open August 19 at 10 a.m. local time through PlayStation Direct in supported countries and through selected retailers. Sony says stock will be limited. The products then become available on September 15, the same day as the game.
Players who already own a PS5 do not need to buy another console to get the design. Sony will sell Battle Yellow covers for the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro for $74.99. The matching controller costs $84.99. The covers support consoles with or without a disc drive, which makes them the more sensible option for anyone who already has the hardware.
Jock's Artwork Is the Real Difference
Jock is a Scottish comic artist whose work includes Judge Dredd, Batman, and Wolverine. He previously helped create the key art for Insomniac's game, and Sony brought that same rough ink style onto the console rather than reducing the character to a small logo.
