After signing the servant contract, do not head straight into Aldous' room. Check the dark side room first. A yellow box sits on a narrow chest of drawers, with a ladder to the right and a black bird watching through the window.
1. Open the yellow box and set its three number wheels to 7, 2, and 8 from left to right.
2. Take the black bird egg from the opened box.
3. Leave the room and return to the exterior area near the carriage approach.
4. Find the small opening in the wall where a hand appears.
5. Give the black bird egg to the hand.
6. Take the paper the hand offers in return.

What the 728 Secret Gives You
The paper ends the chain. The demo never asks you to spend it on breakfast, use it to wake Aldous, or carry it into the required guest-arrival sequence. It is a small extra clue for anyone following Rusty Lake's promotional trail.
Where Code 728 Comes From
The combination was hidden across promotional footage rather than written beside the box. One shot points to seven on a clock, another shows two raised fingers, and a third hides an eight near the maid and floor. Reading those clues in order produces 728.
You can skip the trailer hunt and type the answer immediately. The lock accepts 728 whether you discovered the three clues or arrived with the code in hand. Rusty Lake's official site offers a smaller nudge: the demo and Lite version contain a secret, and players should follow the bird.
Code 728 vs. Code 235
728: opens the optional yellow easter-egg box and starts the black-bird-egg chain.
235: opens the separate breakfast cabinet and gives you sugar for the required porridge route.
If 728 does nothing, clear the three wheels and enter the digits again from left to right. Check the room before trying a different combination: the correct lockbox is yellow, with a ladder on the right and the bird visible at the window. The breakfast cabinet will not accept 728.
Can You Miss the 728 Secret?
Yes. The yellow box and wall-hand trade are optional, so the demo can end without either item. The cleanest route is to finish the entire chain before entering Aldous' room. That keeps the black egg separate from the later earlobe-and-bird interaction used for the required berries.
Already watched the guest carriage roll in? Replaying the free demo is the simplest cleanup route. Steam describes it as a 15-to-30-minute preview, and the yellow box appears before the longer morning routine.
Is 728 the Servant of the Lake Secret Ending Code?
No. Code 728 opens the demo and Lite easter egg; it does not change their normal ending. The premium game has a separate post-credits secret-location route tied to the You've found him! achievement. That later hunt uses other clues and is not part of the yellow-box puzzle.
After collecting the paper, continue Aldous' routine normally. The guests still arrive when the required demo tasks are complete; opening the box adds a hidden clue, not a second demo finale.
Does the 728 Secret Work on Mobile?
Yes. Rusty Lake says the same hidden secret appears in Servant of the Lake Lite, the free mobile version. Tap the yellow box, enter 728, and use the black egg on the wall hand just as you would with a mouse on PC.
The full game launched on August 13, 2026, but the official site still links the demo and Lite version and Steam still offers the free PC demo. You do not need to buy the premium game to complete this particular easter egg.
