Lufia is returning in 2027 with a collection that includes both of the series’ original Super Nintendo adventures. TAITO announced Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam.

The package includes Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. There is no exact release date yet, and TAITO has not announced an Xbox version.

Both stories are included

The first Lufia opens with a famous battle against the Sinistrals before moving years ahead to a new hero. That hero travels with Lufia and a growing party as the ancient threat begins to return.

Lufia II is a prequel. It follows Maxim, Selan, Guy and Artea on the journey that leads to the opening of the first game. Playing the collection in release order preserves the mystery of the original story. Starting with Lufia II puts the events in chronological order.

The important part is that players do not have to choose one version of the story. Both games are in the same release.

Lufia II is often remembered for mixing turn-based battles with puzzle-filled dungeons. Rooms can require players to move objects, use tools and read the environment before reaching the next fight. The first game has a more traditional structure and establishes the characters and conflict that gave the series its name.

TAITO has not detailed every enhancement

The official Steam page says the games have been prepared for modern play, but it does not list features such as rewind, save states, speed controls or soundtrack options. None of those tools should be treated as confirmed until TAITO shows the menus or publishes a full feature list.

The first screenshots keep the original pixel art and battle interfaces. They also show the two games presented clearly on modern displays instead of being redrawn into a different visual style.

That approach should make the collection familiar to returning players while giving newcomers a direct way to see how the two stories connect. It also avoids the confusion of releasing only Lufia II, the better-known entry, without the sequel that was originally released first.

Release information

Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga is scheduled for 2027. The confirmed platforms are PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC.

TAITO is both the developer and publisher listed on Steam. Pricing, physical editions, language support beyond the store listing and the exact launch day have not been announced.

For now, the announcement confirms the part fans have waited longest to hear: the first two Lufia games are returning together, and the collection is not limited to one console.
