Ava Bunn is now a series regular in Scrubs Season 2. She plays Sam Tosh and joins Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke in the main cast as Sacred Heart’s experienced doctors work with a new generation.

Showrunner Aseem Batra says Tosh will appear throughout the season, while the other interns will not appear in every episode. The change gives individual doctors more time for their own stories instead of limiting them to a few lines each week.

Who joins the cast?

  • John Higgins plays Grant, the new chief resident. His scenes with Braff’s J.D. put the older doctor in the position of trying to persuade someone younger to accept his help.
  • Keyla Monterroso Mejia joins as surgical nurse Mimi.
  • Tamera Mowry-Housley will guest star as Dr. Steffie, a pediatric doctor.

How much will Carla and Dr. Cox appear?

Judy Reyes is expected to appear as Carla in five or six episodes overall. John C. McGinley is set to return as Dr. Cox for two more episodes after the opening pair. Their other filming commitments affect how often they can visit the Vancouver production.

Reyes also works on High Potential. Batra says the team is arranging her Scrubs appearances around that schedule, rather than making Carla a full-time member of the revival’s main cast.

What changes for the nurses?

Michael James Scott continues as Nurse Dubois, but X Mayo is not returning as Nurse Raymond because of scheduling. Batra would welcome another appearance from her, though none is currently planned. Joel Kim Booster’s Dr. Park is also absent; that change was a creative choice.

Where can you watch?

The revival airs on ABC in the United States. New episodes stream the next day on Hulu. The second season began with two episodes on September 30. Bill Lawrence created the original series; Batra is the revival’s showrunner and executive producer.
