Shadow Punisher premieres on iQIYI on October 2, 2026. The platform announced the date on September 30 and released a new trailer for the Chinese costume drama. Luo Yunxi leads the cast as Li Si, a man who joins a team of royal investigators while trying to find out what happened in an old murder case.

The show brings together crime stories, martial arts and a threat to the royal court. Its investigators face scenes that seem hard to explain: bodies left in unusual places, a dangerous plant hidden in a forest and people who appear to break the rules of ordinary life. The trailer gives us a first look at that world without showing how the team solves its cases.

When does Shadow Punisher start?

The confirmed premiere date is October 2. iQIYI’s announcement is newer and more specific than the earlier release plans, which did not give viewers a clear day to mark on the calendar. The platform has an international title page for Shadow Punisher, and its official Indonesian YouTube channel has shared the new trailer. Viewers outside China should still check their local iQIYI page for the release time and episode schedule.

What is the story about?

Li Si enters the Divine Constables Bureau to investigate an old killing. The bureau is a team that handles cases tied to the royal court, and the story takes place in the fictional Dashi dynasty. Li Si’s personal search soon becomes part of a much bigger problem. People linked to Liluo, a fallen power, are returning with plans that put the court and the country in danger.

An old murder connects Li Si to a much larger plot. iQIYI’s story description links the new crimes to the return of the Five Occult Arts. Among the cases are nine coffins holding murdered young women and a flesh-eating plant deep in a forest. These are details from the official story description; the trailer only gives us brief glimpses of the events.

Those strange scenes leave the investigators with practical questions. Who was at the scene? What happened to the victims? Which detail could explain what everyone has seen? At the same time, the team has to work out how the cases connect to the wider threat. The show’s premise puts the search for answers alongside the danger facing the court, giving Li Si more to worry about than a single crime.

Meet the main cast

Luo Yunxi plays Li Si. Li Si joins the bureau with a reason of his own: he wants answers about an earlier murder. That personal search gives the drama a thread to follow as new cases arrive. Luo appears in both pale and dark costumes in the trailer, but the footage does not explain what causes the change. iQIYI also lists Ashes of Love and Till the End of the Moon among the actor’s previous work.

Fang Yilun plays Meng Rui, the Ghost Constable. The production announcement describes him as a skilled fighter with a personal grievance. His role gives the group someone who can handle physical danger, while Li Si follows the questions surrounding the old case. The official scene photo shows Fang in a dark red costume; his newer character poster keeps the focus on his face and weapon.

Shen Yujie plays Bai Zhenzhu, the Frost Constable. She examines bodies and helps the team find evidence. That skill matters in a story built around deaths with unusual circumstances: a body can tell the investigators something that a witness has missed. Her role is confirmed in the production announcement, and the official cast photos identify her as Bai Zhenzhu.

He Hongshan plays Xuanyuan Shan, who leads the Divine Constables Bureau. She is the senior figure in a group whose members bring different skills to the same cases. The production announcement names her as the woman in charge. Her official scene photo and the new red character poster give two looks at the character, while the trailer leaves most of her story for the episodes.

Wang Haixiang plays Yan Cheng, known as the Iron Constable. The production material presents him as a feared member of the team. His official still shows him holding a curved blade, with his attention fixed on someone outside the frame. The image introduces his appearance and weapon, but it does not tell us who he is confronting or which case the scene belongs to.

Ma Wenyuan plays Lou Tianming, the Eagle Constable. He is another member of the investigative team named in the production announcement. His official still places him in a dark costume against a blue-lit background. Together, the six main cast members give the show a group to follow through its cases, with Li Si’s search running through the wider story.

Who's who in Shadow Punisher?

What does the official trailer show?

The official trailer runs for about a minute and a half. It moves from Li Si in pale robes to the investigators examining objects, entering a blue-lit cave and facing scenes designed to look unsettling. Some shots focus on faces and small details; others show the larger spaces around the team. There is enough footage to get a sense of the show’s look, but little explanation of what the investigators have found.

One striking sequence shows red-robed figures suspended in an elaborate interior. Another follows the group into a cave. These images help introduce the strange cases described by iQIYI, although the trailer does not identify every scene or explain how it fits into the story. Watching the full clip gives those shots their proper setting, with the music and quick cuts that connect them.

A closer look at the new character posters

The new character posters arrived on September 29. All six use a red and gold color scheme, with each cast member shown separately. They offer a clearer look at the faces, hair, costumes and props than the fast-moving trailer does. Fang Yilun’s poster puts his weapon close to his face, while Luo Yunxi’s shows Li Si holding the green object also seen in other promotional material.

Shen Yujie’s poster uses the same red background and gold title lettering. The matching designs make it easier to see how the main characters belong to the same show, even though their costumes and props differ. The photos throughout this article are the original production images, including the six scene stills released when filming ended. The cast cards above pair each actor with the character they play.

The book and the team behind the show

Shadow Punisher is based on Wang Ke’s novel 魅影神捕. Zheng Weiwen and Liu Chong direct the series, and iQIYI lists Chen Yuhan and Hou Wenwen as its writers. The production report carried by Youth.cn names iQIYI and Beijing Zhanyou Culture as the companies behind the drama. Filming began in Hengdian in June 2025.

The early concept poster, covered by Sohu.com, showed a lone figure facing a city. The later cast photos brought the attention closer to the people working on the cases. Now the new trailer shows them in action. Each piece adds something different: the poster introduces the setting, the portraits help viewers learn the cast, and the video shows how the drama moves between investigation and danger.
