The Salty Koharu Has a Soft Spot for Me will begin airing in Japan on October 6. The new main trailer finally gives the romantic comedy a full look, following Koharu Satou and Souta Oshio as a small moment inside a family cafe turns into an awkward mutual crush.
Koharu is known at school for being beautiful, distant and almost impossible to read. Her classmates call her “salty” because she rarely smiles or lets anyone get close. Souta discovers that the truth is much less dramatic: she is shy, clumsy in social situations and terrible at taking attractive photos of desserts.
That discovery happens at cafe tutuji, the shop run by Souta’s father. Souta handles the cafe’s social media and knows how to make food look good in a picture. Helping Koharu with her photos gives the two a reason to spend time together, even though neither one is ready to admit how they feel.
The main trailer previews both theme songs
Masayoshi Oishi performs the opening song, “Sugar Salt.” The title fits a story built around Koharu’s cold reputation and the much sweeter person Souta sees when they are alone. The trailer uses the song to show their early meetings, embarrassed reactions and the friends who notice the attraction before they do.
HoneyWorks teams with Sara Hoshikawa for the ending theme, “First Love Reply.” The song will be released digitally on September 29, while “Sugar Salt” follows on October 6. Both tracks lean into the same idea as the series: two people are clearly falling for each other, but saying it out loud is the hard part.
Who voices Koharu and Souta?
Miku Ito voices Koharu, and Hiiro Ishibashi voices Souta. The cast also includes Miyu Tomita as Rinka Sudo, Chiaki Kobayashi as Ren Misono, Yoshino Aoyama as Shizuku Misono, Hisako Kanemoto as Mayo Nezu and Yuki Wakai as Madoka Murasaki.
Fumihiro Yoshimura directs at Tezuka Productions. Takashi Aoshima handles the series composition, Daisuke Okushima designs the characters and Shun Narita composes the music. The production is adapting Kazami Saruwatari’s light novels, with the anime keeping the sweets, photography and slow-burn romance at the center.
Japanese broadcasts begin October 6 on AT-X, Tokyo MX, BS-TBS and WOWOW, with other channels following later in the week. d Anime Store and U-NEXT start early streaming at 10:30 p.m. Japan time that same night. International streaming details have not yet been confirmed in the checked official material.
The new trailer makes the tone clear: this is not a romance about a cruel girl changing overnight. It is about someone finally noticing that her cold image was hiding a very nervous person all along.
