Captain Price is no longer leading Task Force 141. He is the man it has been ordered to hunt. Call of Duty’s Tokyo Game Show campaign trailer for Modern Warfare 4 puts the former allies on opposite sides of a mission, and the new story reaches far beyond their falling-out. The game arrives October 23; eligible digital preorders can begin the campaign October 16.
After General Shepherd’s assassination in Modern Warfare III, Price has gone into hiding and 141 has been disbanded. Ghost questions the methods Price used, while Ghost and Gaz receive orders to capture or kill their former captain. Kate Laswell is still in contact with him, though the official story description suggests even she may be losing confidence. The central fight is personal before it becomes global.
An old enemy becomes Price’s ally
The trailer’s surprise partnership is Valeria Garza, the Las Almas cartel leader who once stood against the team. The two are shown together, but the announcement does not pretend they have become friends. They need each other while a larger threat builds, leaving plenty of room for the alliance to fall apart.
That change gives Ghost’s pursuit another edge. If Price is willing to work with Valeria while his own people chase him, how far does he think the mission justifies going? The trailer poses the question; it does not settle whether he is right. It is a sharper hook than simply placing the squad back in the field for another chase.
The war in Korea and the mystery of Archer
A separate campaign thread follows North Korea’s invasion of South Korea. Private Park Hyun Jun fights alongside a joint US and South Korean Marine force in ground combat and an amphibious assault. The official reveal connects that conflict to an unidentified weapon being transported to a dangerous figure called the Archer. It has not revealed what the weapon does or who the Archer really is.
There are two problems unfolding at once, then: Price’s break with 141 and a war that could turn much worse if the weapon reaches its destination. The new footage gives those conflicts faces and places, but the campaign’s outcome remains under wraps.
Campaign early access starts October 16 for digital Standard or Vault Edition preorders on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2, subject to the publisher’s timing and availability caveats.
