Maneater 2 is coming in 2027 for PS5 and PC. It is a single-player open-world action RPG starring a new bull shark trapped inside Neptune’s Kingdom. The current PlayStation Store listing supports one offline player, while Steam also lists single-player. No co-op or multiplayer mode has been announced.

Tripwire Interactive revealed the sequel during the September 3 State of Play and followed it with a developer deep dive. The concept preserves the first game’s shark-power fantasy but moves it into an artificial island ecosystem filled with engineered wildlife, luxury attractions and genetic experiments.

What is the Maneater 2 release date?

Maneater 2 has a 2027 release window. The PlayStation Blog narrows that to later in the year, but Tripwire has not published a month or exact day.

The safest interpretation is therefore a broad 2027 window, not a hidden placeholder date. Neither the PlayStation Store nor Steam currently offers a pre-order price or countdown, so any date circulating without a Tripwire or platform-store source remains unconfirmed.

Which platforms are confirmed for Maneater 2?

The confirmed platforms are PS5 and PC. PlayStation has an official PS5 product listing, while Tripwire’s Steam page confirms the PC version.

No PlayStation 4 version appears in the announcement or store listing. Xbox and Nintendo platforms are also absent from the primary sources available at reveal, so they should not be treated as confirmed. The PS5 page lists Remote Play and PS5 Pro enhancement, but it does not detail specific Pro graphics modes.

Is Maneater 2 single-player, co-op or multiplayer?

Maneater 2 is currently confirmed as a single-player game. The PS5 store lists one player and offline play enabled. Steam independently categorizes it as single-player.

There is no announced co-op, online multiplayer or competitive mode. That does not prove one can never be added, but it does mean the launch information is built around a solo campaign. Players looking for a shared shark game should wait for an explicit developer announcement rather than infer multiplayer from the open world.

What is Neptune’s Kingdom?

Neptune’s Kingdom is a private island theme park for the ultra-wealthy. Its owners have combined tourism, marine research and environmental engineering into a controlled aquatic playground — and the new bull shark is one of the creatures trapped inside it.

The park is divided into altered biomes rather than one uniform ocean. Tripwire describes arctic and volcanic environments reshaped through technology, plus hidden infrastructure beneath the guest-facing attractions. That structure gives the sequel a clear reason for dramatically different zones and predators within one connected setting.

How Eat, Explore, Evolve and Escape works

The official gameplay loop is summarized as Eat, Explore, Evolve and Escape. Eating supports growth, exploration reveals routes and secrets, evolution changes the shark’s abilities, and escape is the campaign goal tying the systems together.

  • Eat: hunt wildlife and humans to build the power needed to challenge larger threats.
  • Explore: use currents and waterways to move through the park’s connected habitats and hidden facilities.
  • Evolve: equip genetic modifications that change movement, combat and environmental interaction.
  • Escape: break through Neptune’s Kingdom while surviving its security and engineered apex predators.

Tripwire has not yet published a mission count, map size, campaign length or level cap. The reveal establishes the structure, but detailed progression numbers and completion-time estimates would be speculation.

What do the genetic modifications change?

The sequel’s evolutions are framed as genetic modifications created through Neptune’s Kingdom’s research. The PlayStation deep dive says these upgrades can alter abilities such as burrowing, gliding through the air and manipulating water.

The store descriptions do not yet provide a complete upgrade tree, resource economy or respec system. The important confirmed difference is that evolution is more than a damage increase: it is intended to open traversal options and ways to interact with different biomes.

Who is the new shark, and does Trip Westhaven return?

Players control a new man-eating bull shark rather than simply replaying the first game’s protagonist. This shark has been held and experimented on inside Neptune’s Kingdom, giving the campaign a direct escape motive from the start.

Trip Westhaven returns as narrator, with Chris Parnell reprising the role. His documentary-style commentary remains part of the series’ identity, now applied to a setting that mixes luxury tourism, irresponsible science and engineered ecosystems.

What Unreal Engine 5 changes

Maneater 2 is the series’ first game built in Unreal Engine 5. Tripwire specifically highlights improved underwater lighting and more believable non-player behavior.

The reveal does not name a console resolution, frame-rate target, ray-tracing mode or PC upscaler. Steam also lists no minimum or recommended system requirements yet. Those technical details should be added only when the platform holders or developers publish them.

Can you pre-order Maneater 2 yet?

No price, editions or pre-order bonuses are announced. Players can wishlist the game on PlayStation and Steam, but the listings do not currently sell it.

Steam lists achievements, captions, cloud saves, HDR and Family Sharing. It also discloses Denuvo Anti-Tamper and says generative AI tools supported development tasks while all player-facing creative content and marketing were made by human developers and artists.
