Final Fantasy VII Revelation finally has a release date. Square Enix will launch the third and final game in the Remake series on PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027, and the new State of Play footage shows why this chapter is built differently from the two games before it.
The trailer is not only a date announcement. It lays out a larger world, a playable Highwind, a new combat system, and story choices that let different party members take the lead. Here is what the reveal actually confirms.
The final Remake game arrives April 8, 2027
Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches on PS5 on April 8, 2027. Square Enix describes it as the final entry in the Remake series that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The announcement confirms the PS5 date; details about other platforms and their timing still need to be clarified.
Preorders are open on PlayStation Store. Every edition includes the Mecha-Chocobo and Moogle Summon Materia as a preorder bonus. The Premium Edition adds the Story Expansion Pass, which covers two story-focused DLC releases, plus 24-hour early access. Premium Plus adds a digital art book, mini soundtrack, extra summon materia, armor, and an accessory.
The Highwind turns the planet into an open world
Revelation is the first game in this trilogy to make the Highwind central to exploration. The airship can travel across a large open world, giving the party a way to move between regions instead of treating every location as a separate stop on a mostly fixed route.

The footage also suggests that travel will not be a passive loading-screen break. The party can leave the airship to explore on foot, find routes through cities, and use new traversal tools to reach places that are not accessible from the ground.
Piko is more than a chocobo mount
Piko returns as the party’s chocobo companion, but this time the bird also joins fights. Piko grows alongside the group and gains abilities that help with both movement and combat. That gives exploration a familiar Final Fantasy VII flavor while making the companion useful after the next battle starts.
The game has not shown every Piko upgrade yet, so it is too early to call the system a full second combat class. What is confirmed is simpler: Piko is a mount and a combat ally, not just a way to cross the map faster.

FITS changes combat and the party’s look
The new Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear system, or FITS, lets players assign specialized uniforms with their own moves and combat functions. The four confirmed types are Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner.
FITS is not only a menu of stat boosts. The uniforms change what party members can do and change their appearance on screen. Cid is shown using the Knight type while Vincent uses Summoner, giving the trailer an immediate example of how two characters can fill different roles.
You can switch party members while exploring
Revelation adds instant character switching during exploration. Players can move between party members without returning to a menu, which should make the open world feel less like a Cloud-only tour. The system is also tied to quests: some missions let players choose which party member takes the lead, and that choice can affect how the scene unfolds.
A grappling gun expands the routes through cities and ruins. The trailer shows characters scaling rooftops and crossing gaps, but Square Enix has not presented a complete list of grapple points or every location that supports the tool.
Queen’s Blood gets a Red XIII story
Queen’s Blood returns with a new storyline centered on Red XIII. The card game will have new opponents and challenges that can change the flow of a match, so this is more than a small collection of optional tables scattered around the map.

The reveal does not explain how long the Red XIII campaign will be or whether it connects directly to the main ending. It does confirm that Queen’s Blood is being treated as one of the game’s dedicated side stories rather than a feature left behind in Rebirth.

What is still unknown
April 8, 2027 is now firm for PS5, but Square Enix still needs to explain the timing for other platforms, regional pricing, and the full contents of the two story DLCs. The new trailer also leaves the final story turn under wraps. For now, the important change is clear: the Remake trilogy is ending with a planet to cross, a party that can split responsibilities, and a combat system that gives each character more room to change.
