Ghost of Yōtei Most Wanted launches October 1, 2026 as a new single-player combat-survival roguelike. The September 3 trailer confirms four playable characters — Atsu, Oyuki, Nagato and Jin Sakai — plus permanent upgrades between runs. It is not a co-op mode: Ghost of Yōtei Legends remains the separate online co-op option. Existing owners can buy the Complete Edition Upgrade for $14.99; the full Complete Edition costs $69.99.
Sucker Punch used the September State of Play to reveal the rules behind Most Wanted and confirm Jin’s return. The same October release also includes the Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion and a free version 2.0 update, so the important distinction is what each part actually offers.

What the new Most Wanted trailer confirms about Jin Sakai
Jin Sakai is fully playable in Most Wanted rather than appearing only as a cosmetic reference. Sucker Punch says he keeps all four sword stances from Ghost of Tsushima, along with the Sticky Bomb, hankyu bow, Dance of Wrath Ultimate and Ghost Stance Kill Streak.
This does not make Jin the lead of the Ghost of Yōtei campaign. Atsu remains the protagonist of the main story and Echoes. Jin is one of four characters built specifically for the repeatable Most Wanted mode.
How a Most Wanted run works
Each run begins at a bounty board. Players select a member of the Yōtei Six, enter a combat arena and clear escalating waves. Minibosses appear during the run, and completing waves offers a choice of perks that can change the build before the final target.
- Choose a bounty. The selected Yōtei Six target determines the run and its final boss.
- Clear enemy waves. Use the character’s weapons, ability, Ultimate and Kill Streak to survive each arena.
- Select perks. Successful waves offer temporary run upgrades rather than permanent campaign gear.
- Defeat the target. Higher difficulties eventually lead to Lord Saito as the final Most Wanted challenge.
All four playable characters and their weapons
- Atsu: dual katana, Metsubushi and Blind Bomb; Call of the Pack summons her wolf, while Onryō’s Howl can terrify enemies.
- Oyuki: kusarigama, kunai and tanegashima; Shadow Killer and Shadow Shinobi support a fast, evasive style.
- Nagato: yari, tanzutsu, yumi and hankyu; Gambler’s Mark and Blast Arrow reward aggressive ranged setups.
- Jin Sakai: four sword stances, Sticky Bomb and hankyu; Dance of Wrath and Ghost Stance bring his signature tools into the mode.
The announced kits suggest four genuinely different routes through the same bounty. Atsu has the broadest mix of close-range weapons, crowd control and a companion summon. Oyuki leans toward mobility and quick tools, while Nagato combines spear reach with several ranged options.
Jin is the clearest choice for returning Ghost of Tsushima players because his four stances preserve the familiar answer to different enemy types. That does not establish a best character before release: perk drops, difficulty modifiers and boss matchups may change which kit is strongest during a particular run.

Most Wanted is single-player only. It is not a four-player version of Legends, and the four-character roster does not mean four people play together. You choose one character for each solo run.
For co-op, use Ghost of Yōtei Legends. PlayStation describes Legends as the game’s online cooperative mode, and it is included in the Complete Edition. The two modes share the same package but serve different audiences: Most Wanted is repeatable solo combat, while Legends is online co-op.
Most Wanted also does not require a co-op partner, matchmaking or a party to begin a bounty. The official announcement describes the mode around one selected character and one run at a time. PlayStation has not announced local split-screen for Most Wanted or Legends.
What carries over between runs?
Most Wanted awards Mon outside the run. That currency permanently unlocks techniques, weapon upgrades, charms and additional characters, giving failed and completed attempts a longer progression path.
The mode also awards cosmetic items that carry into the main Ghost of Yōtei campaign and Echoes of Sekigahara. Temporary perks belong to the current run; the Mon purchases and earned cosmetics are the lasting rewards.
What is Echoes of Sekigahara?
Echoes of Sekigahara is the separate narrative expansion. One timeline follows Atsu during the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600. The other takes place in 1603, when Nagato reaches Ezo and Atsu enters the Ashoro Foothills, a new region tied to the Snake and the Vipers.
The expansion adds new enemies, heavy weapons, armor sets and dyes. It is the choice for players who want more of Atsu’s story; Most Wanted is the choice for repeatable combat runs.
Complete Edition price, upgrade and physical release
Existing Ghost of Yōtei owners can buy the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade. New players can buy the $69.99 Complete Edition, which includes the base game, Echoes, Most Wanted, Legends, Digital Deluxe content and Charm of Hokkyokusei.
A physical PS5 Complete Edition also launches October 1. Players who preorder the Complete Edition or buy the upgrade by September 30 receive early access to the Sakai Armor on October 1. This is an armor unlock, not early access to the two modes.
The $14.99 upgrade is therefore the direct route for anyone who already owns the base game. The $69.99 edition is the complete starting package for a new player. PlayStation has not announced Echoes or Most Wanted as separate standalone purchases outside that upgrade.
What is free in the October update?
Version 2.0 is not limited to Complete Edition buyers. Every owner gets Beauty of Yōtei, a presentation mode for viewing Ezo’s scenery, plus new Photo Mode stamps and more New Game+ cosmetics.
The update also lets players combine one armor set’s appearance with another set’s statistics, adds a high-contrast accessibility option, introduces new Watanabe Mode music and expands the trophy list.
These version 2.0 features are separate from the paid expansion access. An owner who skips the Complete Edition Upgrade can still install the patch and use the free presentation, customization, accessibility and Photo Mode additions.
