The Lava Rod is a free reward from the Lava Fisherman inside Kohana Volcano. You do not buy it from the normal Rod Shop. Reach Kohana by boat, enter the volcanic area, and speak to the fisherman to claim it.
Reach Kohana Island
Leave Fisherman Island by boat and head for Kohana Island. Kohana’s regular shoreline and Kohana Volcano are different fishing areas on the same island. Reaching the beach does not mean you have reached the Lava Fisherman.
Look for the route into the mountain near the village and waterfall. Enter through the cave route instead of trying to jump down from the top of the volcano.

Find the Lava Fisherman
Inside the volcanic area, look for the Lava Fisherman beside the lava pool. Walk up to him and interact to receive the rod. If you are still looking at ordinary fishing-rod shop stock, you are at the wrong seller: this unlock comes from the named fisherman.
Lava Rod stats compared with the Starter Rod
- Luck: 30% on the Lava Rod, compared with 0% on the Starter Rod.
- Speed: 2% on the Lava Rod, compared with 0% on the Starter Rod.
- Weight limit: 100 kg on the Lava Rod, compared with 10 kg on the Starter Rod.
The bigger weight limit is the clearest early upgrade: the Lava Rod handles fish up to ten times the Starter Rod’s cap. Its Speed bonus is much smaller. It is useful free equipment, not a promise of instant rare catches or a replacement for every later rod.
What is free, and what still costs coins?
The fisherman’s rod reward has no coin price. Your trip may still require buying a boat, so keep travel money separate from the amount you plan to spend at the rod shop. Once you have the Lava Rod, compare it with the equipment you already own before paying for another small upgrade.
