Koji Yakusho plays a famous actor who comes home to discover that almost everyone has forgotten him. That is the joke at the center of Netflix’s new Japanese comedy Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?, and the main trailer shows how badly it hits his career and his pride.
Yakusho’s character, Gen Takasegawa, once had a name nearly every person in Japan knew. When he returns, he is living in a park and finding that even his family does not recognize his celebrity. He believes people must have lost their memories. Instead, he has to accept that his own career may need to begin again.
The trailer follows Gen back onto film sets
The new footage shows Gen pushing into auditions and taking small parts as he tries to become a working actor again. He meets people who remember a very different entertainment industry from the one he dominated. The comedy comes from Gen’s certainty that he is still a star, even when the people around him barely know who he is.
Kento Kaku plays Tetsu Okamoto, a playwright with his own career problems who runs a theater troupe and works part-time at a sauna. Kenichi Matsuyama plays Kazuki Kawashima, an assistant director dealing with the work of a film set. Those characters give Gen two very different views of the business he wants to re-enter.

Yoh Yoshida plays Yoko Nonomura, the head of Gen’s former talent agency and his ex-wife. Yumi Kawai plays their daughter Emma, who works at a concept cafe. Hayato Isomura plays the troupe’s star actor Takeru Murai, while Masatoshi Hamada plays Daiya Mibu, an actor who used to be Gen’s rival.

Kankuro Kudo wrote the series, and Netflix released its official key art alongside the trailer. The poster puts Gen in front of a larger cast, a useful hint that the show is about the people around him as much as his attempt to get famous again.
The trailer moves between Gen’s private embarrassment and the busy film crews around him. It also shows that finding work will not automatically restore his family relationships. Those problems give the comedy a story to follow after the initial joke.
