Stranger Than Heaven has finally explained the roles built around Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur. Snoop plays Orpheus, a trader who becomes a mentor to young Makoto Daito. Tupac appears as Amaru, a man living in hiding in Japan.
Both names were part of the cast announcement earlier this year. Sega’s new character breakdown gives players a clearer idea of how they fit into a story that runs from 1915 to 1965.
Who does Snoop Dogg play?
Orpheus travels the world buying and selling legal and illegal goods. Makoto meets him after boarding a ship from San Francisco, hoping to reach Japan after losing his parents and facing persecution in the United States.
Orpheus sees musical talent in Makoto and takes the boy under his wing. That puts Snoop’s character near the start of the 50-year story instead of using him as a quick celebrity cameo.
What is known about Tupac’s character?
Amaru is described only as a man living in hiding in Japan. Sega is keeping his connection to Makoto and the larger conflict secret, so the new footage raises more questions than it answers about when he appears.
Sega previously said Tupac’s likeness was used with permission and supervision from Amaru Entertainment. The character was designed by artists using archival video and photographs, and Sega said AI was not used to recreate him.
What kind of game is Stranger Than Heaven?
Stranger Than Heaven is a single-player action-adventure from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the team behind Like a Dragon. It follows Makoto through five eras and five Japanese cities inspired by real places.
The cast also includes Yu Shirota, Dean Fujioka, Tori Kelly, Cordell Broadus, Ado, and several Japanese actors and musicians. Snoop, Tori Kelly, Ado, and Satoshi Fujihara also perform the main theme.
When does Stranger Than Heaven release?
Stranger Than Heaven releases January 15, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, and Steam. It will also be available through Xbox Game Pass.
